Patheos March 2026 Featured Writer: Stuart Delony 2026-03-02T17:57:01-07:00

Stuart Delony is a former ordained minister turned podcaster, writer, and self-described “amateur heretic.” After years in pastoral ministry, he grew disillusioned with the power dynamics of institutional Christianity and traded the pulpit for a microphone. Today, he hosts Snarky Faith, a podcast with over 370 episodes that blends sharp wit with thoughtful critique of faith, politics, and culture. The show is part of the Quoircast Network and Patheos Podcast Network and continues to reach a growing audience of listeners navigating their own spiritual questions.

Stuart also writes a weekly column for Patheos, where he challenges conventional perspectives and fosters meaningful dialogue for those on the margins of faith. He holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Georgia and an M.A. in Leadership from Fuller Seminary—though he’ll tell you he’s learned more from life than any classroom.

A married father of four, Stuart describes himself as a “reluctant optimist” who left the church but couldn’t shake the ways of Jesus. His work isn’t about fixing Christianity—it’s about naming what’s broken, holding space for hard questions, and rediscovering a faith rooted in love, compassion, and dignity for all. His debut book, The Tribulation Survival Guide, is now available.

When asked what he enjoys about contributing to Patheos, Delony said, “Patheos lets me write about faith without pretending religious institutions are above critique. Many readers arrive carrying questions they were told not to ask, and I like being able to say honesty isn’t a spiritual failure. It’s often where faith actually begins. The goal isn’t to tear belief down or defend it — it’s to talk about it truthfully.”

He offers up this advice to future Patheos contributors: “Write to people, not to your side. Online religious writing often becomes sermonizing or dunking, and both are performances. Readers can tell. Be clear, be specific, and don’t mistake certainty for depth. Honest writing builds trust faster than winning arguments.”
