Xavier Scott Preston

Xavier Scott Preston is a multifaceted professional and Washington, D.C. native whose work bridges the worlds of sports, ministry, and spoken word poetry. He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sport Management from Liberty University, as well as a Master of Arts in Urban Ministry from Grand Canyon University.

With a strong foundation in leadership and service, Xavier currently serves as a columnist for Patheos, where he writes culturally relevant, faith-based articles that engage readers in meaningful dialogue. He is also active in the sports industry, working as a Guest Experience Ambassador for D.C. United and a Box Office Representative for the Washington Commanders.

His previous roles include serving as a ticket operations intern with the Commanders (under their former name) and a Guest Experience Representative with the Washington Nationals.

Since 2016, Xavier has faithfully served in several ministries at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Currently, he serves as a prayer warrior and a writer and editor for News @ The Mount. He also serves as an event leader for both the youth and young adult ministries and a Bible Study captain for the youth ministry. Through this role, he helps teens understand the importance of having a relationship with God and encourages them to walk boldly in their God-given purpose.

In addition to his work in ministry and sports, Xavier is a gifted poet and spoken word artist, performing under the name Electi a Deo—Latin for “chosen by God.” His performances combine spiritual insight with creative storytelling, inspiring audiences across diverse settings. In April 2024, he took his poems from the stage to the shelf through his book Struggle and Redemption.

Xavier’s ultimate goal is to use every gift to glorify God, inspire believers, and help non-believers come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Xavier has this to say about contributing to Patheos, “I enjoy creating content that allows me to blend trending topics and social issues with my faith. I believe this approach helps readers understand how they can apply a biblical worldview to any subject or situation.”

He offers up this advice for future Patheos contributors: “One piece of advice I have for future Patheos contributors is to be authentic by creating content that matters to you. God created you with a unique voice that the world needs to hear through your articles.”
