After I posted on “missing chapters” from Genesis, someone left a comment on Facebook asking if that refers to the period after Peter Gabriel left and before Phil Collins took over as lead singer. I actually have a connection to a different missing chapter from the band Genesis. I went to Bible College with the drummer in one of the two bands which later combined members (leaving other members by the wayside) to form Genesis.
Genesis has long been a favorite band of mine. The first album (a cassette, to be more precise) I ever owned was the album Duke. And it was watching the video for “Follow You, Follow Me” that inspired me to learn to play the keyboard myself.
I suppose there are probably a lot of readers of this blog who, if they know any Genesis songs, they are only the ones that were hits from their relatively more recent years. And so here are some “chapters” from the band’s musical history that you might be missing.
First, here’s the keyboard solo from “Cinema Show” (if you want to hear the first part of the song performed live, there’s a video here, in which you’ll see Peter Gabriel on vocals and Phil Collins on drums):
What’s your favorite Genesis song? Are there songs by Genesis or another favorite band of yours that were never released as singles or are simply widely unknown nowadays but you think should be widely known, because they’re so great?
