Like so many others, it is hard to feel anything other than pride for the Butler Bulldogs and what was an impressive end to an incredible season. One of the two teams in the championship was going to lose – we all knew that before the season even began. Butler went all the way to the championship, played their best, kept up the pressure on Duke so that there was never more than a handful of points difference between them, and if that final shot had gone in, Butler would have won rather than lost. I don’t think anyone would deny that the Butler Bulldogs played an amazing game at the end of what has been an amazing season.
And so I congratulate the Duke Blue Devils, but I also congratulate the Butler Bulldogs. What a winning streak you had this season! What an effort in the championship! You gave your all, and we’re proud of you!
