The first thing that I discovered was that, far from being plain and black, these butterflies were mostly blue, with the color ranging from a deep purple to a light, almost iridescent blue, but this was not apparent when they were in the shadows.
The next thing I discovered was that, as I took the time to look up into the trees, that the trees were full of butterflies. It was as though they were butterfly trees rather than (or at the same time as) pear trees.
There is no particularly deep message in this, other than that sometimes there is a lot more going on in a familiar place or scene than we are likely to notice, with our tendency to look superficially.
The photos in this post are ones I took today.
