Many of us had been wondering where the 2012 Society of Biblical Literature International Meeting would be held – and whether the lack of information about the meeting on the SBL web site was due to concerns about the Rapture or the Mayan Apocalypse potentially interfering with the event.
However, at long last SBL has sent out the following announcement about not only the 2012 but also the 2013 International meetings:
The Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) is pleased to announce that the Universiteit van Amsterdam will host the 2012 SBL International Meeting July 22-26. SBL will organize this meeting in conjunction with the 2012 Annual Conference of the European Association of Biblical Studies (EABS) and the triennial Joint Meeting of the Oudtestamentisch Werkgezelschap in Nederland en België (OTW) and the Society for Old Testament Study (SOTS). With delight the organizations herald this congress as a unique opportunity to advance biblical scholarship, to facilitate broad and open dialogue, and to demonstrate the strength of global collegiality.
The Society is also pleased to announce that the University of St. Andrews-Scotland will host the 2013 SBL International Meeting July 7-11. Held for only the second time in Scotland, the meeting will prove to be both picturesque and memorable. Mark your calendars for both meetings! We hope to see you there!
In related news, the blog Evangelical Textual Criticism has a post about what to do with SBL bags, from which I learned that there is even a Facebook group dedicated to this question.
