Here are some blogs and bloggers that discuss the subject:
Jona Lendering, Jim Davila, Mike Heiser, Tom Verenna, and Jim West (twice).
Just to follow up, since I first thought from Heiser site, “the results”, and some others, “Carbon 14 dating on Pb?” Can’t do it. So googling…
OK, a Mormon site….don’t like their theology, but a good summary of pros and cons.
ref 2 says C14 tests were done on a leather strap. Pb date was only based on physical inspection….not a test.
Summary statement on Mormon site….
“All-in-all these things lead me (no pun intended), and others, to believe that the plates are probably a very elaborate and careful forgery.”
They obviously have an interest in anything related to plates…
A follow up, ref 2 “A piece of leather, bearing the image of a crocodile, which also turned up with the metal books, was sent for carbon dating. The results, just back, indicate it is nearly 2,000 years old”

Good deal. Maybe James will highlight your summary once he gets on the ground.
