International Society of Biblical Literature Conference – Day One

International Society of Biblical Literature Conference – Day One

I got to London yesterday for the International Society of Biblical Literature conference, being hosted by Kingโ€™s College. Unlike the SBL Annual Meeting in the US, and apparently previous international meetings, the first day of the conference โ€œhit the ground running.โ€ I was rather dismayed, as a result of not having planned my travels with this in mind, to have missed the first dayโ€™s batch of papers, in particular Mark Goodacreโ€™s on the story of the discovery of the Nag Hammadi texts, as well as the first of the several sessions on whether monotheism is a term that should continue to be used in Biblical studies.

The opening session in the evening included a history of Kingโ€™s College by Richard Burridge the dean, greetings by various other individuals, a talk by the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, and a performance by the Choir of the Chapel of Kingโ€™s College.
