I was tempted to say “the reburial of Jesus” or “second Burial of Jesus” in the title of this post, but having recently discussed the Talpiot tomb and related topics, I feared that might result in misunderstandings. Even so, I hope you enjoy the double meaning of the title. My book The Burial of Jesus: History and Faith is going to be published as an ebook by Patheos Press in a second, revised edition. They are looking for scholars to... Read more

Here are some links to discussions around the blogosphere which connect with this blog in some way, shape or form. First, let me link to a post by Sam, a former student of mine, whose blog post “Redoing Theology” reflects what so many of us have experienced: our views change over time, and it is appropriate for them to do so. Next, Tony Breeden has a post that seems to be in several places around the internet. It is supposed... Read more

Lots of people who tried jailbreaking their iPad 2 or iPhone using the initial command line release experienced errors and problems. Thankfully, Absinthe for PC (think of it as Jailbreak 2.0, if you wish) is already available, a simple application that you can run and which should work. You may want to make a backup and then reset it completely, if you find you still hit problems. You can download the Absinthe jailbreaking app for PC via this link, or... Read more

I just watched Captain America: The First Avenger and found it interesting to see how they connected it with the themes of aliens visiting ancient Norway in Thor and the idea that super-advanced science/technology is indistinguishable not only from magic and superstition but religion. Red Skull is played effectively by Hugo Weaving (made famous by The Matrix movies as well as V for Vendetta), who seeks godhood and world domination through the use of energy from an artifact supposed to originate... Read more

The Indianapolis Star has posted an opinion piece I sent them about “creation science” on their web site. I understand it will also appear in tomorrow’s paper. It is in the “Letters to the Editor” section, and they gave it the title “My View: Inform yourself about creation theories.” Click through to read it. Read more

Modern science has provided heaps of evidence of ways in which humans and other animals are similar. Does this video offer yet another example? Do you think this crow was sledding just for fun? Or is there some other explanation for its actions, and if so, what might that explanation be? Read more

The news is breaking that an untethered jailbreak is finally available for the iPad 2, using a tool called Absinthe. The Mac OSX version has been released, and ones for PC/Windows and Linux users are promised soon. The Greenp0ison website is not always keeping up with the strain from so much traffic, but when working you can get the jailbreak via this link. It would make much more sense, however, to get it via torrent from someone who has already... Read more

It took me a while to get around to watching the first two hours of the new TV show “Alcatraz.” There have been comments that it is trying to be the next LOST (which I think is true, even down to the music) and that Jorge Garcia’s character is trying to be too much like Hurley (which doesn’t seem to me to be the case, at least so far). When “Doc” (Garcia’s character) learns that prisoners did not get transferred... Read more

For the penultimate episode of the William Hartnell era, “The Smugglers,” the show returns to a staple form that was common from early on: an episode in which science fiction is only the means by which the characters end up in Earth’s past, but is not central to the story otherwise. In this episode, the Doctor and his new companions, Polly and Ben, end up in the era of pirates on the high seas and hidden treasure. When the travelers... Read more

I’ll be participating in the upcoming blog tour about Pete Enns’ book The Evolution of Adam: What the Bible Does and Doesn’t Say about Human Origins. As a foretaste, here is the author saying a little about the book and why he wrote it. Read more
