We need to get a full revelation of how Free we are!
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” NIV
Paul’s apostolic words ring through all time and all realms to reach you and I today: We are FREE and completely free entirely due to the Blood of Jesus. In our modern mindset we shrink this down to a small political/religious box, a reduced reality that looks something like:
“I am an American provided for by a God-based Constitution, I am a Christian with a Bible that I read like a rule book…things are working out fairly well for me.” What a tiny, restricted box that is!
We need to get a full revelation of how fully Free we are!
Today I took Galatians 5:1 apart with the inspiration of Holy Spirit and the assistance of some reliable commentaries. Wow. I am so much more free than my country says I am. I am ever so much more free than my non-denominational church ‘permits’ me to be. I am utterly free here in this reality and place called in Christ Jesus. What Paul is exhorting is that you and I are free:
~ to not do things that do not pertain to our salvation (religious BS)
~ we are free from the Mosaic Law. It is a yoke that will blur our vision.
~ we are not required to look at or do anything that does not reveal the majesty of Jesus
~ we are free to embrace the realm of glory and to enjoy grace
~ we are actually free to make life decisions, doing what we please, thereby presenting our lives as gifts to God. (You may tell that to ‘your covering.’)
I see that this sweeping freedom requires great devotion not to any law but to the Person Jesus. That is a commitment made in the heart, born out of love and deep gratitude. I am all in. I need all of Your grace for this, Lord.
I also see that we must pass this great freedom to one another first, and then to the whole earth. The earth is waiting. Yearning really. Romans 8:19.
We can do this, really we can.
Listen to the Jason Upton tune “Freedom!” AWESOME!
