A Little One for the Little Ones for Holy Week
Matt Boswell (the songwriter) has released a children’s book, and it is excellent. As always, I am not the one to judge artistic merit, so I’ll leave figuring out whether the pictures in the children’s book are any good to others. But in terms of the theology and the narrative and the rhyme scheme, That Holy Week So Long Ago is excellent and should be on your shelf.

Of course it’s no surprise that the author of “His Mercy is More” and “Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor” (along with Matt Papa) is no slouch when it comes to writing words that flow well. And this little book does flow well, walking through the seven days from the Triumphal Entry to the Resurrection.
If I were the cranky(er) sort, I’d point out that this is an addition to the ongoing rise of liturgy in the Evangelical world. The thing is, I’m not opposed to a little dose of liturgy here and there. Though I prefer to call it ‘church order,’ the fact is that we do need to think about what happened the week of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. Those make up two of the three pillars of our salvation (along with the Incarnation), and we need to be clear about what happened and what it means for us.
This short book does that well and in a way that is accessible to the wee ones and won’t drive parents batty if we have to read it over and over. Definitely a book to have on your shelf and to put in the church library.
