You know how you’re at a party and someone brings up the aseity of God, and you just nod along so everyone thinks you know what the speaker is talking about? Well, worry no more–Samuel Parkison’s The Fountain of Life: Contemplating the Aseity of God is here to help.

In case you’re wondering (and not to spoil it too much), the “aseity” of God is, well, it’s complicated and takes at least a 75-page book to sort it out. But the short version is that God needs nothing outside of Himself to exist. He is utterly independent of everything and everyone, however much we may depend on Him.
But what does this mean theologically? And what does it mean practically? That is the point of this little book. Parkison walks through both the theological overview of the doctrine (and does so in a way that is both clear and pastoral) and what it means for the day-to-day life of the believer.
What’s more, The Fountain of Life is a short little book. This will undoubtedly be helpful for busy pastors and congregants alike. While this would be a good one to have in the church library, it’s well-written and engaging enough it’s also worth keeping a few around to hand out.
And of course, once you’ve read it there will be no more party awkwardness, so there’s that as well.
Highly recommended.
