A college anthropology student sent me a question from my Scientology Parent page, as she’s doing some study for her class on how family history & background can lead people to various religions.  As she was studying about Scientology, she was curious how my own family and significant events in my life led me to Scientology.   Her questions were thought-provoking on my part (an angle I’d not yet thought about) so I figured I’d post my answers here. Question:  How does your... Read more

The Church of Scientology announced the milestone completion and release of the Chinese translation of core Scientology Scripture. The accomplishment marks the first time all of the fundamental works of Founder L. Ron Hubbard, comprising 18 books and 284 recorded lectures, have been accessible to the world’s Chinese speaking population. The announcement was made by Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board Religious Technology Center and ecclesiastical leader of the Scientology religion, to more than 6,500 Scientologists attending the annual celebration of... Read more

The Church of Scientology International is opening a 45,000-square-foot church in the Arcadia neighborhood of east Phoenix as part of an ongoing effort to expand the church’s presence worldwide. Spokeswoman Erin Banks said since the global expansion began about five years ago, the organization has opened more than 20 new churches, including churches in Cincinnati, Sacramento and Hamburg, Germany, in the last three months. The new Phoenix church will occupy the former Fairmount Square office site at 3875 N. 44th... Read more

Found this poem by Eric Meyersfield about the effects misunderstood words can have on a child.  The phenomenon (and its resolution) is covered in Study Technology by L. Ron Hubbard, and there is an excellent video and free course on Study Tech on the Scientology website.  And the poem follows: The most gut wrenching cry that ever you heard, Is frustration that follows the misunderstood word, The child is restless and can’t sit quite still, He’s nervous and angry and feeling... Read more

Here is the video I referred to in my last post–on Study Technology by L. Ron Hubbard.   Read more

Thought you all might like this little insight on that practice we’re all familiar with of “kissing it & making it better” (thanks to David Calkins of Mace-Kingsley for sharing): “Well, now, actually, it’s not even funny, because a little child will bark his knuckles or stub his toe or something and it’s almost — you can almost see him plot the whole thing out. He barks his knuckles and, like a small rocket, heads immediately for Mom and says, ‘See?’... Read more

When people hear I’m a Scientologist they often ask me about Silent Birth.  Today I found this blog posting on the Scientology Parent blog that I thought illustrated what goes on very well. This fantastic story was submitted by my Aussie friend Sonya, a fellow Scientologist who just had her first child. Okay so here is my story. I was past my due date by about one and half weeks. I was freaking out a bit as they wanted to induce the... Read more

Here’s some advice a fellow Scientologist named Lauren proffers on her blog.  I think it’s a very good idea, so I thought I’d pass it along. There is nothing wrong in seeing that something is out of place or being done the wrong way and needs to be corrected. What is wrong is if you are going to stand in judgment of that thing and criticize or if you are going to take effective action in order to help it.... Read more

I found and loved this post in LD Sledge’s blog, and thought it was worth sharing it here with the Patheos community. Ed Connelly lurched and stumbled along the marble hallway, grimacing at the effort of walking and holding the heavy books in his twisted and gnarled hands. He fell into a chair in my freshman law school class, his tongue between his lips, fumbled with his notebook and finally got it opened, then gripping a ballpoint pen in his... Read more

I’m about 30, a computer guy, a mountain biker, a daddy, and a Scientologist. I’ve been in Scientology for much of my life (since I was a little kid). However, I wanted to study these basics of Scientology as much of what I got of Scientology I got hearsay from my parents or from other Scientologists I lived and worked with, rather than reading all of this data myself, and thereby forming my own opinions and conclusions on the subject directly from the... Read more
