“Your Mind doth begin to Expand”

To Launch this November:

A new forum that will be a complement to the popular LDS magazine site, MERIDIAN.

Here’s a brief mission statement.  (See the longer explanation in my earlier post on Moral Apologetics.)

To EXPAND the role of critical thinking faithful to the Church and the Gospel:

Careful, critical thinking has a role to play in explaining and defending the Church’s moral positions, and its doctrines related to sexuality and the family, just as it does in the areas of Church history and scripture.  In fact, reason’s role in countering powerful secular ideologies may be of the most urgent importance for many who are facing challenges to their faith.  Faithful LDS scholars and thinkers must not leave members (and prospective members) without reasons for their faith, including reasons to doubt the dominant secular faith.

Meridian/EXPAND welcomes all faithful engagements with significant intellectual and cultural trends; this means examining the interface between the Church and the world both by sympathetic comparison and by clear contrast when appropriate.  We  seek both to discover intellectual and cultural resources for more fully appreciating and articulating gospel truths, and to identify significant tensions or contradictions between the gospel and leading intellectual trends.
