An Early Fall Trick-or-Treat

An Early Fall Trick-or-Treat September 20, 2021

Hey friends, this is not a real blog post. This is just my every-so-often reminder that Steel Magnificat and my family run almost entirely on tips. I get a very small paycheck from Patheos for clicks in the United States and nothing for clicks anywhere else. That check was a two-digit number this month. I get modest book royalties once a year. And the rest of my income to support my family is gratuities from satisfied readers.

I have an online tip jar that says “donate” on it, but the donations aren’t charitable donations, they’re just tips. I pay taxes on them. When you click on it, Paypal walks you through the option to tip me once or to tip me automatically at the same time every month I currently have exactly 50 recurring donors providing between 1/3 and 1/2 of my income depending on the month, and the rest is made out of totally random tips that fluctuate wildly. I use the tips so I can eat and pay the light bill to keep writing and posting.

Lately we are very grateful to be making enough to not qualify for EBT most months, but our monthly utility bills are interesting.  Rosie’s homeschooling textbooks for the start of the year are paid for, but I don’t have anything extra for extracurriculars or field trips. And I need to buy a bottle of my vitamins as soon as I can.

So, as always, I ask: if you like what you read, give me a tip when you can! Just go to the donate page here, click on the bright yellow button, and Paypal would walk you through the rest. I’d especially like to increase the number of regular tippers so I actually know what to expect from month to month.

And now back to blog posts worth reading!
