Hey everybody,
This is not a normal post, this is my every-several-weeks blogkeeping post about what I’ve been up to lately, and where to find me when I’m not on Patheos.
In the winter of 2025 here at Patheos, we saw the inauguration and the presidency of Elon Musk, who nobody voted for. I had to remind everyone that being rich doesn’t excuse you for sin. And I went back to a theme I’m constantly harping on: empathy is not a sin, it’s a virtue. In non-political news, we’ve talked about my anxiety creeping up, but also all the fun I’ve been having with the neighborhood urchins. I’ve gotten to go on several of my infamous prayer hikes. I’ve gotten to preach on the Gospel. And I’ve had a great time now that spring is here.
Please keep in mind that I’ve moved my primarily political posts not particularly involving Catholicism over to my substack. I also am recording videos at least once a week on Substack which are more religious themed and usually involve a talk on the day’s Gospel reading. I keep as much of that content free as possible, but I do have a weekly Sunday Gospel meditation and some other exclusive things for my paid subscribers. Those paid subscriptions are a huge help to me financially and are making life much easier for the whole family, so if you wouldn’t be burdened to subscribe at the paid level I would be very thankful. Also I am going to be sending a complimentary paid membership to the people who’ve been regular tippers in my Patheos Paypal tip jar over the course of the month. Message me to remind me if you are one of those regular tippers and haven’t got one before long.
I do still have an account on X/Twitter, but it’s no longer my primary social media home because the platform has gone to H-e-double-hockeystick in the past several months. So if you want my usual stream of consciousness, you should follow me on bluesky. Bluesky is a friendly place.
With Twitter algorithms collapsing and with the market for writers being what it is right now, the very best way you can help me short of leaving me a million dollars in your will, is to like and share and comment and talk about my work. If something I wrote touched you and you share it on your Facebook page or send it to a friend, that’s an amazing service.
Finally, as always, the tip jar.
My husband is employed but it’s currently part time at first, and we hope that changes after awhile. At the moment, I make the majority of my family’s income, by my writing. I get a tiny royalty check for my books, which you can make higher by buying some, and I hope to have another book out before long. I get a tiny paycheck from Patheos for clicks in the United States and nothin’ for clicks outside the country. I get paid when I write for the newspaper or do another writing project which I take on whenever I can. I’m extremely happy when I get paid Substack subscribers every so often. And the rest of my income is gratuities from satisfied readers. Sometimes a reader will put a few bucks in the tip jar to thank me when they’re impressed by an article, and sometimes they sign up to tip at the same time every month. That’s what keeps me housed and my lights on.
So, as always, I ask: if you like what you read, give me a tip when you can!
I have paypal button and a venmo button. The paypal says “donate” but it’s not a charitable donation; it’s just a tip and I pay taxes on it. It will take you to an account called “the little portion” that is the name of an Etsy craft shop I used to have; it’s actually just sending money to me. And the Venmo is easy, it’s just to Mary Pezzulo and that’s me.
And now, back to posts worth your time!
