Hi friends! This is not a real post, this is just my every-several-months blogkeeping notes, explaining what I’ve been up to and where to find me when you’re not reading Patheos.
This spring, the Pezzulos had an uncanny Easter. We got to organize the world’s least organized Easter egg hunt. I saved a baby bird and found myself the adoptive mother of a traumatized cat. We planted the garden. With the new/old car I’ve been swimming and visiting historic sites. And now I’m busy being the honorary grandma for the neighborhood children. In politics, I’ve been worrying about the federal budget, the sin of avarice, and the increasing lawlessness of the Trump administration.
Be aware that I now have two blogs for you to follow.
I use this space at Patheos for my artsy uncanny pieces on living in Northern Appalachia, for my religious meditations, my commentary on politics in the Catholic church and the Catholic abuse crisis, and for my Catholic-social-teaching-flavored political writing. For more standard, secular political fare and writing about my autism, I now have a Substack. The Substack is also where I’ve been posting videos that are more like a podcast. Most of that content is free, but I try to do a paid-members-only post a week and I plan to provide more audio content.
If you have been a regular tipper to my Steel Magnificat tip jar and you would like a complimentary paid Substack membership, please let me know! I wanted to just give all of you regular tippers paid memberships, but I ran into a snag because Substack doesn’t let me email anyone from there without their express permission. So just comment, or message the Steel Magnificat facebook page, or talk to me on Twitter or Bluesky, and I’ll send you one.
For those of you who have been following my infamous Twitter page, you should know that I only post on that page a few times a day now, and I’ve moved my primary base of operations to bluesky. Bluesky is the tab I have open all day long when I write. That’s the best place to find me in a hurry!
Finally, as always, the tip jar. My husband works in a restaurant and my full time job is writing. Writing is how I support my family, but with the rapid changes to social media in the past 14 months or so, I’m making quite a bit less money, and Michael’s job doesn’t quite cover the difference yet. With the prices at the grocery store getting higher, it’s awfully pinched around here. I get a small check from Patheos for clicks in the United States, I get a bit of money every few days from Substack subscribers, and the rest of my income is gratuities from satisfied readers.
So, as always, I ask: if you like what you read, give me a tip when you can!
I have paypal button and a venmo button. The paypal says “donate” but it’s not a charitable donation; it’s just a tip and I pay taxes on it. It will take you to an account called “the little portion” that is the name of an Etsy craft shop I used to have; it’s actually just sending money to me. And the Venmo is easy, it’s just to Mary Pezzulo and that’s me.
And now, back to posts worth your time!
