Michael Cohen Steps Down From RNC Role, Offers Rare Criticism of Trump on His Way out the Door June 21, 2018

Wow.

It may seem like a small thing, actually, but it could very well be the first clear signal that Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney and “fixer” is done being a fall guy for his former boss.

Recent comments from friends of Michael Cohen suggest that he is ready to tell what he knows about Donald Trump and his business practices, as well as any campaign shenanigans that may have gone on, requiring his intervention.

Specifically, payments or arrangements with two former mistresses: porn star, Stormy Daniels, and former Playboy model, Karen McDougal.

Of course, Cohen has been described as the one within Trump’s circle who “knows where the bodies are buried,” so that could very well be why he becomes the one person Donald Trump regrets treating like garbage.

On Wednesday, the news broke that Cohen was stepping down from his role as one of the Republican National Committee’s deputy finance chairs.

Referencing the ongoing Russia probe, as well as the investigation by the Southern District of New York’s U.S. Attorney’s office into his business dealings:

“This important role requires the full time attention and dedication of each member. Given the ongoing Mueller and SDNY investigations, that simply is impossible for me to do,” Cohen wrote in his resignation letter to RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, reviewed by ABC News.

Yes, I imagine it is.

In April, federal authorities raided Cohen’s home, offices, and hotel room, confiscating dozens of electronic devices and millions of documents and files.

It was even reported that shredded documents were being pieced back together, so to say the investigation into Cohen’s practices has been thorough would be an understatement.

He hasn’t been officially charged with anything, yet, but he understands the seriousness of his situation.

The potential crimes he may be forced to answer for include bank fraud, wire fraud, and violations of any tax or campaign finance law.

Cohen was appointed to his chairmanship with the RNC in April 2017. It may be the only thing he got out of his loyalty to Donald Trump, because he was not offered any sort of role with the administration.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel confirmed Cohen had stepped down, adding that he’d been inactive in his role for several months.

Yeah. That’s because he’s had a little bit of something going on.

Here’s the part that should perk up those who are keeping score at home – Cohen, the man who has proudly said that he would take a bullet for Donald Trump, added his voice to the rising swell of criticism of the policy at the border that is separating illegal immigrant families.

In his farewell:

In the letter, Cohen also offered rare criticism of Trump, condemning his administration’s decision to prosecute all illegal crossings of the U.S. border, which has led to many minors being taken away from their parents or guardians as they cannot be detained for long periods of time.

“As the son of a Polish holocaust survivor, the images and sounds of this family separation policy is heart wrenching,” Cohen wrote. “While I strongly support measures that will secure our porous borders, children should never be used as bargaining chips.”

President Trump has since signed an executive order to stop the separation of families at the border and to allow for detainment together.

Cohen slapping at Trump this way does send a signal. He’s untethering himself from whatever it was that kept him so loyal for so long, willing to endure verbal humiliation, while taking out the petulant Manhattan bully’s trash.
