Trump Plays Advocate for the Nation’s Geopolitical Foes Before the G7 Summit

Trump Plays Advocate for the Nation’s Geopolitical Foes Before the G7 Summit June 8, 2018

Honestly, I cannot, for the life of me, understand how it is that people think Trump is some slow-witted, gullible, dancing monkey puppet for the Putin regime.

I mean, to believe that would mean that he’s more invested in advancing the goals of our greatest geopolitical foes than that of our allies, or our own nation.

For all you naysayers, pointing to Trump’s campaign team pushing to have the language regarding Russia’s aggressive moves in Ukraine and Crimea “softened” in the GOP platform during the Republican National Convention in 2016, you shouldn’t really look at that as evidence of anything unsavory. It’s just a coincidence.

Ok, I get that there’s an ongoing Russia probe, and that the U.S. intelligence community is in unanimous agreement that the Kremlin launched a sophisticated effort to interfere in the 2016 election, with an influence campaign favoring Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.

Seriously, are we going there? That one was a toss-up, and it’s not like Hillary Clinton was some prize. She was awful! We can’t blame the Russians for that.

If you want to know who lost that election for the Democrats, it was the Democrats that made Clinton their candidate!

She was so bad, she lost to Donald Trump, for Pete’s sake!

And yes, you can’t turn a corner at Trump Tower or in the hall of champions that made up Trump’s campaign team without running into two or three Russians.

There are so many threads connecting people in Trump’s circle to Russia, Robert Mueller could potentially have his hands full for the next decade, attempting to unravel it all.

ALL of that can be explained!

Donald Trump is not Vladimir Putin’s incompetent sidekick!

Oh, wait…

Speaking to reporters on the South Lawn before leaving for Canada to attend the G-7 summit, Trump said he has been “Russia’s worst nightmare” but argued the country should be a part of the talks.

“With that being said, Russia should be in this meeting,” he said. “Why are we having a meeting without Russia being in the meeting?”

To begin, I think maybe he’s confused “nightmare” with “dream come true.”

Then there’s 2014 and Russia’s annexing of Crimea. That move is why it is now a G7 summit, and not a G8 summit. Russia was put out of the group after that.

“Whether you like it or not, and it may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run,” Trump said. “And in the G-7, which used be the G-8, they threw Russia out. They should let Russia come back in because we should have Russia at the negotiating table.”

And a world with an empowered Russia is a more dangerous one. That’s kind of the point.

Trump can’t continue to say he’s tough on Russia, when he’s going into this G7 summit, having taken a hostile stance against our allies and trade partners, while defending our enemies.

That is as backwards as it gets.

There were many who insulted former President Barack Obama for his dismissive, nasty attitude towards our Middle East allies, Israel, and they were right to do it.

This is no different. Obama damaged ties with Israel and emboldened Iran. Trump is making it worse by damaging ties with allies and trade partners in Canada, Mexico, and Europe, while helping China and Russia.

He doesn’t know what he’s doing and if more Republicans don’t grow a backbone and form a united front against this bad player in our White House, the damage may be such than we can never recover.
