Feeling Tariff Pain? No Worries! Trump Ready to Give Welfare to Farmers

You get a bailout… and you get a bailout… and you get a bailout!

So President Trump gets it in that bag of cats he calls a brain that trade wars are easy to win, and that tariffs are great.

In the meantime, business after American business is stumbling and feeling the pain from his misguided efforts.

Never fear!

Trump is on the case!

In his biggest of best, good brains, he has sent out his Agriculture Department to announce a $12 billion emergency assistance package for those soy and pork farmers who are losing out in this trade war.

Said another way: Trump is extending welfare to farmers.

Said, yet, another way: Trump is stealing from the farmers, by way of taxation, then pinching them off a small portion of what he’s cost them, and expecting to be thanked for it.

Not every lawmaker is on board with this latest show of utter incompetence from Comrade Trump.

Decrying this new layer of welfare, the objections rained down, many from members of the president’s own party:

“They want trade, not aid,” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said of farmers caught in the middle of the trade war.

“This is becoming more and more like a Soviet-type of economy here. Commissars deciding who should be granted waivers. Commissars in the administration trying to figure out how they’re going to sprinkle around benefits,” he said.

“Farmers actually want the free-market system to work as best as possible and they want access to these overseas markets,” he added. “I’m very exasperated. This is serious.”

Did you say, “Soviet-type”? That’s such a curious comparison.

Senator Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as well as an unfiltered critic of President Trump added:

“You yourself put in place a policy that causes people to need to be on welfare and then you provide the welfare. It would be much better to just reverse the policy that’s creating this,” said Corker, who is retiring at the end of this Congress.

He’s retiring to put distance between his name and whatever this nightmare scenario of stupid is that’s currently seeking to drive our nation to third world status.

Chairwoman of the Senate Energy and National Resources Committee, Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) had a really good point, actually.

Why just farmers? Trump’s pathetically inadequate and incompetent “leadership” is hurting others, besides farmers. In particular, she pointed out the damage being done to the fishing industry and energy industry in Alaska.

“Farmers are hit but there are a lot of others that are hit by these tariffs as well,” she said. “I have a seafood industry up north that is not considered to be farmers. We’re farmers of the sea.”

“The impact to the seafood industry is significant,” she added. “The impact on the energy industry is significant.”

And as tends to be the case, so often, if you want to have the point driven home with power, look to Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse.

“America’s farmers don’t want to be paid to lose — they want to win by feeding the world,” Sasse said in a statement. “This administration’s tariffs and bailouts aren’t going to make America great again, they’re just going to make it 1929 again.”

A Depression-era reference. It fits.

Unfortunately, Congress seems to have forgotten that they’re supposed to be co-equal branches of the government, and they’re allowing the Executive branch to run rough-shod over everything that makes our nation secure.

Let’s remember: There are those who hated the bailouts from Obama, but will cheer this move by Trump, which tells you all you need to know about the partisan hackery that is killing us.
