Michael Cohen Burned at the Stake by State-Run Media

Michael Cohen Burned at the Stake by State-Run Media July 2, 2018

There really must be loyalty to the throne. Former Trump attorney and “fixer,” Michael Cohen is about to find out just how much his years of devotion to Donald Trump are worth.

It doesn’t look like it’s worth much, but I don’t think this will come as much of a surprise to him.

What we’re seeing is that no matter how “thick” someone is with Trump, the very real possibility is they can go from being heroes to zeroes in a blink, if they stray outside of the dangerous realm of groupthink that surrounds Trump and his faithful cabal.

After ABC News published the interview between Michael Cohen and George Stephanopoulos Monday morning (as discussed here), where Cohen declared his loyalty was to his family and his country, it didn’t take long for the knives to come out.

For most of us, the notion of someone putting their family and their nation first just sounds normal. To the state-loyal propagandist of Fox News, it’s practically treason.

The hosts of the Fox News program, “Outnumbered” wasted no time in going after Cohen.

Harris Faulkner was first to point out that Cohen was now drawing clear dividing lines between himself and his former boss, by saying the Mueller probe was not a “witch hunt,” and that he agreed with the U.S. intelligence community about Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

“If he knows something that is so important and yet he’s willing to sort of taunt the president by seeming to go against him, what does that say about this person as a witness?” Faulkner wondered aloud. “It gets difficult to kind of even see him as credible at this point. I don’t know what he knows, just based on the way he’s acting.”

Yes. Let’s just forget the decade of service and those things he has done, like creating a shell company to pay off Trump’s mistresses, and all those things that have him in trouble now, to begin with.

Later, she added, “The one thing we know about Michael Cohen is that he’ll throw anybody under the bus.” Faulkner pointed to the moment in court when Cohen gave up Fox News’ own Sean Hannity as his mystery “third client.”

Except he didn’t throw Hannity under the bus. He tried to keep that quiet, but the judge in the case ordered him to reveal the name of his third client. Faulkner is suggesting that Cohen should have sacrificed himself, risked contempt of court, a fine, possibly jail time, just to defend another Trump loyalist.

Either Faulkner is ignorant of what went on in that instance, or she is a particularly twisted cultist.

Michael Cohen was not only loyal to Donald Trump as his attorney and fixer for so many years, but he has also been a frequent, welcomed guest on the Fox News network. He was trusted enough by Sean Hannity that Hannity used him for legal advice, apparently.

Now, however, it’s all about trashing and discrediting him.

“And if you’re willing to give an interview, if you’re willing to speak out publicly like he’s now done and go against the president,” co-host Abby Huntsman concurred, “I think we should all take that as a signal that he is in a dire situation, grasping for air, wanting any help he can get.”

When Juan Williams noted that the one area Cohen refused to discuss was the hush payments to Stormy Daniels, Faulkner added, “That’s why I question his credibility, because what are his motives?”

His motives are to take care of himself and his family, Ms. Faulkner. That’s pretty plain. The question is, what are your motives, and how do you go out there in front of the American people and give such a shameful performance?

All I can say is that they must be really concerned about what Cohen knows, because nothing he said was an insult to Donald Trump. Nothing he said suggested he wanted to punish or hurt the president, in any way.

All he said was that his loyalty was to his family and country, first.

That used to be a good thing.
