#TreasonSummit Trends as Trump Slams the US for Poor Relations With Russia

#TreasonSummit Trends as Trump Slams the US for Poor Relations With Russia July 16, 2018

I woke up this morning and #TreasonSummit was trending on social media.

Why do you think that is?

Today was the day of President Donald Trump’s summit with Russian President (and ex-KGB agent) Vladimir Putin.

Let me go on record as saying that simply meeting with the leader of a hostile foreign nation should not be considered a treasonous act. There is protocol in place to allow for just such events.

What there is no protocol for is secretive, behind-closed-doors meetings with no aides or anyone to guide the conversation on policy, or even to keep track of what is being said, with nations that have attempted to interfere in the most basic part of our free nation – our elections system.

There’s no protocol because that is something that is not supposed to happen.

I remember shortly after Barack Obama was elected, he went on an “Apology tour,” for America. Apologizing to foreign nations for the very existence of the United States. He apologized for our arrogance on the world stage, and it was the most disgusting thing I’d ever witnessed. It was a real low point for this nation.

And if you were disgusted by that, but you’re not disgusted by Trump today, you are no patriot. You are a hypocrite and your loyalty is not to our nation, but to a man. Fix your life.

“Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!” Trump tweeted, referring to the special counsel’s probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

That’s right.

With everything Russia has done to us, the problem is that we are foolish and stupid, by President Trump’s estimation. It has nothing to do with Russia’s aggressiveness in the region, in violation of international law, or their attempts to interfere in a U.S. election. It’s all on us.

Russia was condemned in the United States for its takeover of Crimea in 2014, and the U.S. and Russia have also battled over Moscow’s support for Syrian President Bashar Assad, among other issues.

The intelligence community has also found that Moscow interfered in the U.S. presidential election, and 12 Russian nationals were indicted on Friday for their role in hacking the Democratic National Committee.

There were calls for the president to call off the summit with Putin, given the announcement of those indictments. Rather than speak with any authority or condemn the acts (something he’s never done, actually), Trump got frantic in his condemnation of Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Also, let’s not forget Trump’s attacks on our allies with NATO, just before the summit with Putin. He was far more harsh with them than he has been with Russia over their attempted interference in our election.

He accused Germany of being “captive to Russia” because of a gas pipeline running from Russia to Germany.

After arriving to the meeting late, he also demanded that members pay 4 percent – more than even the U.S. currently pays – and suggested that if they didn’t bend to his demands, that maybe should the time come, the U.S. wouldn’t be so quick to defend those nations he sees as in default.

And speaking of arriving late, Vladimir Putin made the same power move in his meeting with Trump today, keeping the gilded toad waiting for nearly an hour before arriving.

So what happened after President Trump slammed our nation for not being nicer to our greatest geopolitical foes?

Besides the Russian Foreign ministry replying to the tweet with a tweet of their own that read: “We agree,” I mean.

He went into a one-on-one meeting, with no note takers or aides, for two hours.

This was dangerous. This was foolhardy. There is no part of that that shouldn’t shake even the most ardent defenders of President Trump.

But they’ll defend this, and see absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating this, but railing against Obama or Hillary Clinton for similarly dubious activities.
