“Freebie Barbie” Balks and Runs at the Prospect of Debating Ben Shapiro

“Freebie Barbie” Balks and Runs at the Prospect of Debating Ben Shapiro August 10, 2018

I’m embarrassed for her.

So here’s the set-up: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – aka Freebie Barbie – is the Democratic Socialist candidate running for U.S. Congress – District 14, New York (Bronx, Queens).

She’s almost assured to win, given the makeup of the district, and it’s causing Democrats headaches.

For one, many of them feel her socialist leanings are too far left and going so extreme so quickly could have negative effects on future elections.

And secondly, she’s dumb as a rock.

I don’t even think she understands what kind of policies she’s pushing. She’s been asked in several different forums to explain how she’d implement those things she claims to stand for, and the mumble-mouthed, backwards, doublespeak that tumbles out is enough to give most serious listeners a nervous twitch.

She doesn’t even understand the leadership structure of the Democrat party.

She doesn’t know a lot, actually.

She claims to have a Bachelor’s from Boston University’s College of Arts and Science in Economics.

I find that hard to believe. If she had any knowledge of economics, she wouldn’t be a socialist.

If you want to know exactly how useless she is, her bio lists her as a “community organizer.”

Anyway, as she has traipsed about, babbling near incoherently about how everything should be paid for by other people’s money, she also has made the comment that Republicans won’t debate her on the issues.

Well, someone decided to step up.

The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro, in a video message on Wednesday, offered to give her the forum to showcase her community organizing skills and vast economics knowledge, through a debate. He even offered to sweeten the deal with a $10,000 pledge to her campaign or favorite charity.

Said Shapiro:

“Miss Ocasio-Cortez, I’m really excited that you’ve been elevated to that position and I would love to have a real conversation with you about the issues,” Shapiro said. “You’ve noted that you think Republicans are afraid to debate you or talk to you or discuss the issues with you.”

“Not only am I eager to discuss the issues with you, I’m willing to offer $10,000 to your campaign, today, for you to come on our Sunday special,” Shapiro continued. “We can have an hour-long conversation about all the topics under the sun, really probe your belief system.”

Personally, I think it would be an amazing event. I would go out of my way to see this, and for $10,000, you’d think Ocasio-Cortez would jump at the chance.

You’d think.

The reaction was the exact opposite.

That’s right. Freebie Barbie pulled the woman card and actually compared a civil, polite offer to debate to sweaty workmen hanging out at construction sites and making lewd noises at women passing by.

And it wasn’t “unsolicited.” You made the comment about Republicans not debating you. He offered.

This is how you play the victim when you know you’re in danger of being exposed as a complete buffoon on a wide forum.

It’s no wonder Democrats are cringing.

This is also a real disservice to women and victims of actual sexual harassment or misconduct.

It would have been much easier to just say she was scared. The vast wasteland of intellectual voids that voted for her in the primary wouldn’t know if she was winning or losing the debate, anyway.

Nor do they care.

They really just want the free stuff.

I can’t help thinking about the parallels between this woman and Trump during the primaries.

Trump also ran from a debate opportunity (the last GOP debate).

Trump also has a degree in economics, yet shows no evidence of knowing anything about economics.

Trump also frequently played the victim card as an excuse to avoid addressing public challenges (remember how Trump was “prevented” from showing his taxes by the IRS and his lawyers (at different times ?).

Trump also made up evidence when confronted with inconvenient truth (remember the “report” from the Better Business Bureau Trump presented after the debate that turned out to be a forgery ? Trump’s medical certification from the check-up the doctor did while Trump waited in his limo downstairs (The findings that the doctor later admitted Trump had dictated to him) ?

Trump also was unable to provide any details on his own policies or explain how he would pay for his wall, for his medical care for all, or for his larger military and lower taxes while eliminating the 21T debt within 4 years. It was also obvious that what Trump said about his policies at his rallies had no relation to what was on his website.

Trump also was (and still is) incoherent when asked a direct question and frequently rambles off into nonsense and non-answers.

Trump is also from NYC (Queens before moving to Manhattan I believe). Trump is also a product of New York Values. Any attempt to portray Ocasio-Cortez as a socialist must contend with Trump’s definition of “New York Values” he gave in response to Ted Cruz’ comment at the NYC Republican luncheon that NYC values are the most patriotic and self-less values in America and (with his hand over his breast-pocket-wallet, Trump went off on a riff as if there was an American Flag unfurled and waving behind him. We can either believe Trump’s definition of “New York Values” or we can believe Ocasio-Cortez’ definition. Is it conceivable that one of them could possibly be lying ?

Trump has often spoken lovingly of socialist policies (single-payer, restricting / removing free-speech rights from the Press, etc) and loves socialist dictators more than he seems to like Democracies, Republics, or the freedoms left in the increasingly-socialized Europe.

Trump does not seem to understand the leadership structure of the US government – let alone the Republican party. Nor does he seem to understand international relations, national security, the US Military, the Nuclear Triad, trade, macroeconomics, the US judicial system, tariffs – nor much of anything really.

Trump also has been called not just an idiot, but a moron by more than a few people that have had to meet with him one-on-one and face-to-face. (Rex Tillerson is just ONE example).

Trump was (and remains) very popular in NYC and has shown an uncanny ability to relate to single-digit-IQ voters that want the government to provide them their every desire – especially those voters that live in NYC.

Other than the fact that Trump claims to be male and “Freebie Barbie” (FB) claims to be female (you did not say so, but I suspect FB supports the gay & transgender agenda just as much as Trump does being a far-leftie), I think it would be hard to tell the two apart without name-tags, so it’s likely that FB will be the 2020 DNC candidate against Trump leading to another lose-lose presidential race in 2020. Perhaps in 2020, China or North Korea will support FB with Russia again supporting Trump’s bid for US President with Congress and the media cooperating to give ringing endorsements and free unlimited air-time to both candidates for the purpose of starving all other candidates for air-time and for opportunities to talk about actual policies.

Are we all sure we know which one is the wild-eyed socialist Democrat and which one is the “Conservative Republican” – the “stable genius” – that rivals Abe Lincoln for honesty and greatness ? I think I’m getting confused….

I predict 2020 to be a free-for-all between two cults of two progressive NYC liberals supported by lots of foreign money from our historic world-wide foes waged covertly on twitter and facebook to sway the minds of the braindead through innuendo, false promises, and personal insults with little to no discussion of policy and with what little policy that DOES get discussed being discussed with incorrectly used buzzwords, incomplete understanding of the processes and consequences involved, incoherent rambling interviews and lots of name-calling and insults.

Unless the adults in the country stand up and reject both major parties, politics will have devolved from a selection of leaders to lead the free world into a sporting event where points are awarded for the lowest behavioral standards and the most vulgar speech and accusations – integrity will have become an actual hindrance to a candidates winning.

Please, please, PLEASE liberals…keep making this woman the new face of the Democratic Party!!

  • captcrisis

You might be surprised to learn that her ideas are actually more popular among Americans than yours are, and that they have been successfully put into practice in many other countries. And of course we know that liberals are better with balancing budgets than are conservatives.

  • GotMyLoveGlassesOn

Her ideas are popular among the deluded who think socialism could ever be “done right.”
It shouldnt be a point to be celebrated that we have that many people in this nation who really want free stuff. When they get the bill for all that “free” stuff, they’ll find it is truly too high of a price.
It’s not even like there arent many, many examples of just how badly socialism can go for a nation.
Lazy, selfish, “gimmie, gimmie” people should not be taken seriously.

  • GotMyLoveGlassesOn

I thought about Trump the whole time I was writing this.

  • JASmius

    (1) AOC doesn’t need to debate Ben Shapiro, as it doesn’t gain her anything in this hyperpartisan political environment; (2) AOC doesn’t dare debate Ben Shapiro because he wouldn’t leave a speck of flesh on her intellectual carcass; (3) Ben Shapiro has to know all of this, which renders his dick-measuring debate challenge a grandstanding publicity stunt that “accomplishes” more or less the same thing that an actual debate would: figurative tribalist poop-flinging. Rather disappointing that even you’ve gotten swept up in this one, Susan.

  • IllinoisPatriot

Lazy, selfish, “gimmie, gimmie” people should not be taken seriously.

…and yet we HAVE to take Trump seriously because he was duly elected and continues his process of converting our WH to our Out House….

  • zigthenzag

Neither party has a plan or the inclination to pay for anything. Dems want to tax, Republicans want to borrow. Both sides bear blame and neither side has a solution. The last balanced budget we had was with a Dem named Clinton at the helm and a budget deal sponsored by a Republican named Kasich. These days Republicans hate Kasich only a little less than they hate the Clintons. Republicans have about as much credibility on fiscal responsibility as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

  • Steven Andrew

I normally agree with a lot of what you write, but as a full blown card-carrying member of the “professional left:” I can assure this is not causing anyone headaches, Susan. Hardly even a ripple. I understand the tactics and why this would be pushed by opponents seeking to damage the candidate or at the very least minimize the effect of the candidate, but she’s causing about as many headaches and about as unpopular among dems as Rand Paul was in the GOP in 2010.

  • GotMyLoveGlassesOn

Yeah. We’re stuck with that clown, at least for a couple more years, but we dont need to add any more to Washington.

  • Polarbearpapa

As to this woman and her chatter…

and to those who support such vapid baloney..

“She’s almost assured to win, given the makeup of the district” – aaaaaaaand that’s why she didn’t debate Shapiro. From her perspective/mindset, Ben Shapiro isn’t a pimple on her keister. I really, really hope nobody was ever under the misapprehension that this “debate” was ever going to happen. Just as I hope everybody realizes that AOC will eventually be Nancy Pelosi’s successor.

“they have been successfully put into practice in many other countries”

    Free college.

I lived in a country that offered free college.

Dorms were tiny, cramped, and filthy. So filthy students (including me) regularly came down with life-threatening infectious diseases. I mean *regularly.*

Students were told when they could go to school. After a certain age, no school for you.

Students were told what they could study. I knew a man who wanted to go into the humanities. His only choice was petroleum geology.

For education, you had to stay on the state’s good side. Protest government actions? Lose your “free” education.

Professors pretended to teach. They were not paid adequately, so they’d show up and decline to teach. Not on some days. All days.

Books were kept locked up and gaining access to a needed book was a time consuming, kafkaesque process.

    Still sound appealing to you?

  • captcrisis

Yes, I have lived in a country that had free college. It was called the United States of America.

The State University of New York (SUNY) had free tuition until 1963. The City University of New York (CUNY) had free tuition until 1976. Most state colleges, within living memory, were tuition-free. But mention free tuition these days (like Ocasio-Cortez does), and people think she’s a wild-eyed socialist. It shows how much our perspective has been shifted to the right by the so-called “liberal media”.

  • Chris Aldridge

Shapiro’s supporters just believe everything he says anyway, regardless of the actual facts, so why bother?

  • In the 6 years I’ve been reading Patheos, I’ve encountered a wide variety of viewpoints. Many have resonated. Many I’ve disagreed with. All have expanded my outlook in some way.

This article is the first time I’ve clicked on Patheos and encountered irredeemable trash. This is just a pathetic excuse for a blog post in every sense of the word and drastically below the standard of discussion that has been set by the Patheos brand.

  • Wrong. She took the high road. Shapiro is a Nazi and a hack. There’s no reason to dignify his demands.

  • Susan Wright

Shapiro, the orthodox Jew, is a Nazi?
    WOW. That’s next-level stupid.

  • Erica Dunham

Imagine thinking she has anything to gain by debating a C-list youtuber like Ben Shapiro, or that making up cutesy names for her does anything but make her more popular with her base. I wouldn’t engage Shapiro either, he’s a Rush Limbaugh style blowhard on his best days and a petulant child on his worst days. His antics only serve to make Ocasio-Cortez look classier. He asked, she said no, and he had to continue tweeting about her 42 times. She hasn’t mentioned him since. Now his fans are writing articles to try to bait her? Sad!

  • GotMyLoveGlassesOn

    You want a cookie?

  • GotMyLoveGlassesOn

Shapiro, the orthodox Jew is a Nazi.
    Seriously. Parody couldnt touch this.

  • Kiddo, if you had any idea what you were talking about, you might have something to say about parody. Sit down while the adults talk.

  • Christopher Lake

Ben Shapiro, is, in fact, a practicing Orthodox Jew. He regularly talks about his Jewish faith, criticizes anti-Semites and other racists, and strongly supports Israel. Nazis aren’t in the habit of practicing Orthodox Judaism, criticizing anti-Semites, and supporting Israel.

  • It’s funny that you think so.

  • Christopher Lake

Josh, your “reply” here is not a genuine response to anything that I wrote. You seem to actually have no substantive response to my factual statements about Ben Shapiro. Therefore, this will be my last reply to you. I didn’t even say that I always agree with Ben. I disagree with him fairly regularly. However, the facts are, he is a practicing Orthodox Jew, and he strongly criticizes Nazis and other racists. To call him a Nazi, as you have, is simply unfair, inaccurate, and, in the face of the evidence, dishonest. If you took any real time to listen to him at all, you would know that.
