OUT: Nikki Haley Resigns as United Nations Ambassador

OUT: Nikki Haley Resigns as United Nations Ambassador October 9, 2018

President Donald Trump has lost the absolute crown jewel of his administration.

This is a developing story, and I will be watching and listening for any additional information throughout the day, but for now, this is what we know.

The United States’ Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has resigned her post.

Ambassador Haley, the former governor of the state of South Carolina, apparently met with President Trump at some point last week. At that time, she discussed her resignation, and set off shock waves amongst senior foreign policy officials.

Haley has been a powerful voice for the United States, while serving as ambassador.

She sailed with relative ease into the position four days after the inauguration of Donald Trump, and since that time, has shown herself to have a backbone of steel.

She was instrumental in guiding the exit of the United States from the United Nations’ laughably monikered “Human Rights Council,” and has also been a fierce defender of our Middle Eastern ally, Israel.

She’s been a defender of President Trump, but you never got the impression that she was the usual, boot-licking embarrassment.

In September, Ambassador Haley came to Trump’s defense, in regards to the anonymous op-ed that was written to The New York Times, allegedly by a senior administration official claiming that there were people within Trump’s Cabinet actively working behind the scenes to save the nation from Donald Trump’s more erratic and foolish impulses.

Axios highlighted some of the points from Haley’s op-ed:

“I don’t agree with the president on everything. When there is disagreement, there is a right way and a wrong way to address it. I pick up the phone and call him or meet with him in person.”

“Like my colleagues in the Cabinet and on the National Security Council, I have very open access to the president. He does not shut out his advisers, and he does not demand that everyone agree with him. I can talk to him most any time, and I frequently do.”

“If I disagree with something and believe it is important enough to raise with the president, I do it. And he listens.”

That’s the kind of strength most have come to expect from Nikki Haley, given how she carries herself publicly, and her powerful presence on the floor of the United Nations.

So what is this resignation about?

There were some who have speculated that she was, in fact, the author of the anonymous New York Times op-ed, but her further op-ed seems to dispute that.

Now, this resignation could be a completely innocent conclusion to Haley’s time as ambassador. Maybe she feels she’s done all she can do.

She’s also a married woman with children. Maybe she’s ready to devote more time to her family.

Then again, with 2018 approaching its end, maybe she feels the time is right to step down and involve herself with examination of higher political goals.

I could see Nikki Haley as our first Madam President.

Nikki Haley 2024… or ideally, as an independent challenger in 2020.

We can dream.
