I’m doing a quick update on my previous article, in regards to an attempt to discredit and smear special counsel Robert Mueller.
As I previously wrote, Mueller has turned over a case to the FBI that involves an attempt to pay women to make false claims of sexual harassment or abuse against him.
One woman has come forward to connect the attempts to Jack Burkman, a rightwing radio personality, conspiracy theorist, and GOP lobbyist.
According to the woman cited in my previous article, someone contacted her over a secure line and offered payment, in return for her making a false claim of harassment against Mueller.
Is this an attempt to derail the Russia investigation, currently being headed up by Mueller?
You know it is, but it could be more.
Now, we’re hearing more, and it involves more of those alt-right social media creeps that are constantly seeking Donald Trump’s favor.
It’s almost comical, and at least one very young, very ignorant individual could be in big trouble.
“When we learned last week of allegations that women were offered money to make false claims about the special counsel, we immediately referred the matter to the FBI for investigation,” said Peter Carr, spokesperson for the special counsel.
Some of the reporters who received these claims began to investigate the claims as a potential hoax. At least one of them claims to have been threatened.
While investigating the possibility of a hoax, the Hill Reporter’s Ed Krassenstein, who was one of the reporters contacted, said he received threats, including a text message reading, “You’re in over your head…. Drop this” which included his and another editor’s home addresses.
That’s some real amateurish, wannabe-tough guy stuff.
Meanwhile, Burkman is attempting to make a name for himself by claiming he’s about to unveil the “first of” Mueller’s sexual assault victims.
It continues to get weird, as the woman who contacted Krassenstein gave two numbers that were both disconnected.
Now we have to ask if this is an attempt to discredit the media, as well, by sending them after a false story.
Enter Jacob Wohl, a child who attempted to make a name for himself as a hedge fund manager, who failed so spectacularly, that he had to become a rabidly pro-Trump conspiracy theoriest, online.
Also enter Surefire Intelligence, a company apparently attached to Wohl.
“I gave Burkman a call. I wanted to know who ‘Surefire Intelligence’ is. That’s when he told me about Jacob Wohl,” said Krassenstein. “To me, this was all a setup from somebody trying to discredit the media.”
The plot thickens, as they say.
Early this morning, Wohl tweeted, “Several media sources tell me that a scandalous story about Mueller is breaking tomorrow. Should be interesting. Stay tuned!”
I’ll note, most of the people who saw that particular tweet laughed. Because it was Jacob Wohl.
Reached by direct message on Twitter, Wohl denied having a hand in any plot to pay women making false allegations against Mueller. “I don’t have any involvement in any investigations of any kind. I’m not quite that cool,” he said.
Well, you’re right about at least one thing.
The usual, alt-right garbage sites grabbed the story.
Gateway Pundit, where Wohl is a writer, was more than happy to run with it. They’ve gleefully trumpeted their “very credible witness.”
Here’s where it gets really funny.
In a statement, Surefire Intelligence tweeted that it “does not comment on current, past or future operations, nor the lack thereof.”
Wohl declined to comment on his involvement with Surefire Intelligence. However, his email is listed in the domain records for Surefire Intelligence’s website and calls to a number listed on the Surefire Intelligence website went to a voicemail message which provided another phone number, listed in public records as belonging to Wohl’s mother.
Belonging to his mother.
So Wohl isn’t talking anymore, and neither is his mom.
And at this moment, I want you all to get this image in your head of me: deep, rolling belly laughs, and eyes bleary from tears.
I haven’t laughed this hard in weeks.
It’s funny for me, now, but I must say, I take no pleasure in a youngster possibly spending time in prison, but sometimes, they have to be taught a lesson.
