I wrote earlier about President Trump renewing his feud with the National Football League, and Monday night’s late hour canceling of the event planned for today, that would honor the Super Bowl LII champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Trump promised a great celebration today for a thousand fans who had expected to be there to see the Eagles honored.
Instead, they’ll get the president’s version of a celebration, as well as a healthy dose of him patting himself on the back, while slamming the NFL.
“The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better,” Trump said in a statement.
Instead, Trump will host a “Celebration of America” event at the White House on Tuesday afternoon.
Trump’s arrogance, and his insatiable need to draw the focus back to himself, no matter the situation, is only exacerbated by his media enablers. In particular, Fox News (American Pravda – all the state-sponsored propaganda that’s fit to spew).
In reporting on Trump’s decision, the network decided to talk about the kneeling controversy, while showing images of players for the Philadelphia Eagles kneeling.
There was one, small detail that they neglected to cover in that piece.
The players were kneeling in prayer, not protest.
The deceptive imagery presented by Fox News was swiftly condemned by those who actually understood what they were attempting to do.
I’m not sure when it happened, but somewhere in the deepest recesses of who they are, Fox News must be growing a conscience.
They issued a correction and an apology.
“During our report about President Trump cancelling the Philadelphia Eagles trip to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win, we showed unrelated footage of players kneeling in prayer,” Christopher Wallace, executive producer of “Fox News @ Night” with Shannon Bream, said in a statement.
“To clarify, no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem throughout regular or post-season last year. We apologize for the error,” he added.
I have no doubt that they’ll soon be back to toeing the line, as dictated directly from the Oval Office, and in full compliance with the MAGA army standards, but for today, we’ll thank them for owning up, and setting the record straight.
More of this, guys.
