Manic Rhetoric on Immigration Will NOT Bring a Red Wave in November

I don’t know if this is just extreme hubris or a case of someone so manic and out of touch with what’s going on outside of the echo chambers of Fox News and internet fanboy sites, like Gateway Pundit and Breitbart News, that he’s incapable of seeing the writing on the wall.

Immigration and the situation at the border is going to be a killer for the Republican party in November. The optics surrounding the immigrant kids and their parents is ripe for a thousand different damning campaign ads.

First Lady Melania Trump didn’t really help the situation with her “I don’t really care” jacket faux pas on Thursday, no matter what the loyalists say.

With all this, President Trump still sees a “red wave” in November, and his advice to fellow Republicans should not be taken seriously.

In one of his bizarre Friday tweets:

“Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November,” the president wrote on Twitter. “Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!”

You’ve got to get those Republicans elected, first.

For those Republicans running, it becomes a delicate matter of getting around the landmine that is the immigration situation, the optics, and public opinion.

What’s more, how do they appear Trump faithful?

While those who still consider themselves as Republicans may stake their everything on being seen as Toadies for Trump, not considering how this motivates Democrats would be a mistake.

In 2016, running Hillary Clinton was a losing bet for the DNC, because contrary to what they would have you believe, Clinton wasn’t the shoo-in with Democrat voters that they believed. Socialist Bernie Sanders and Green Party con, Jill Stein made for a toxic mix on the left. Democrat enthusiasm for Clinton wasn’t what it could have been.

Now, it’s not an awful candidate with tons of baggage they’re running against. It’s multiple candidates that can point to the border and claim the moral high ground.

A more hardline immigration bill was defeated in a House vote on Thursday, and the vote on a more moderate alternative has been delayed until next week.

“Elect more Republicans in November and we will pass the finest, fairest and most comprehensive Immigration Bills anywhere in the world,” Trump said Friday.

“Right now we have the dumbest and the worst. Dems are doing nothing but Obstructing. Remember their motto, RESIST! Ours is PRODUCE!”

Sloganeering isn’t really policy.

On Wednesday, the president signed an executive order that would halt the practice of separating families at the border, calling for them to be detained together. What it doesn’t do is help reunite families that have already been split up.

“Even if we get 100% Republican votes in the Senate, we need 10 Democrat votes to get a much needed Immigration Bill — & the Dems are Obstructionists who won’t give votes for political reasons & because they don’t care about Crime coming from Border!” Trump said. So we need to elect more R’s!”

Trump knows nothing about policy and even less about compassion.

While his rhetoric goes over well with the 4chan/QAnon nutters from the internet, he’s going to have to back it way down to see this raging storm of fail produce anything positive in the voting booth, come November.
