All good things must come to an end.
That would include the delicious, nightmarish stress and spitting fits the name, “special counsel Robert Mueller” rips from the very bowels of the MAGA faithful.
We’ve been hearing for some time that Mueller could be very close to finishing up his work in the 2 year Russia investigation. Some have speculated that his final report could be as close as late February.
Now, it appears we may have confirmation of that particular rumor.
Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, while speaking during a press conference on Monday, suggested things were winding down.
Whitaker told reporters at a press conference that he has been “fully briefed on the investigation.”
“I hope that we can get the report from Director Mueller as soon as possible,” he said.
Depending on what side of the fence you fall on with the Russia debate, whether you’re waiting to declare Trump fully exonerated and victorious against the “deep state” forces, or you’re hoping this will mark the end of our long, national nightmare, you may be experiencing various states of anticipation, right now.
I’ve heard conflicting opinions from several different voices on the matter. One says it will ultimately be anti-climactic. The other says this is going to rock President Trump to his core.
It’s entirely possible that Trump remains free and clear, but some of his nearest and dearest find themselves in hot water.
Whatever the case, the latest “witch” to be scooped up in this so-called witch hunt is Roger Stone, the longtime adviser and ally to Trump, on seven counts, including making false statements and witness tampering.
The indictment, unsealed on Friday, claims that Trump campaign staff were directed to ask Stone what documents WikiLeaks had in its possession that could be damaging to the Clinton campaign. WikiLeaks distributed stolen Democratic emails in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, which Mueller has alleged were hacked by Russian military officers.
Stone is the latest, but if I were a betting woman, I’d say he’s not the last. Before the end of next month, we’ll see another witch or two hauled in by Mueller’s net.
Now the question that remains is if the public will know all that Mueller knows. Will we (the public) be allowed to view his full report?
That seems to be the question on everyone’s mind, at least.
William Barr, Trump’s nominee for attorney general, declined to commit to releasing the full report during his confirmation hearing earlier this month. He said he would have to follow Department of Justice guidelines in determining how the report is released.
Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) also dropped legislation Monday requiring that reports issued by any special counsel be publicly released.
I imagine there are reasons for not releasing the full report to the public, but after all the stress and controversy surrounding this particular issue, I would think the people would prefer to see it all, and to know exactly what Mueller has been doing.
More importantly, what has the man currently leading our nation, as well as those he’s surrounded himself with been doing – and with who?
