Democrats blame US in oil-for-food scandal 2015-03-13T20:47:24+00:00

Here’s a big surprise! I’m gonna have a heart attack and die from this big surprise!

Senate Democrats Fault U.S. in Iraq Oil Scandal

The United States did not do enough to curb corruption by American companies involved in the United Nations’ oil-for-food program in Iraq, say Democrats on a Senate committee investigating abuses in the program.

A report by the Democrats released late Monday said the State Department and the United States Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control had taken “virtually no steps” to ensure that American companies enforced sanctions against Iraq.

Yes…the giant scandal was America’s fault. And according to Paul Krugman, we have lousy health care, too.

Oh, wait. This is about a TEXAS OILMAN! Ohhhhhhh! Well, THAT’s a story. That Kofi Annan part, that Galloway part, that stuff was all bogus and made up, but this…this is about a Texas OILMAN! Well, that changes EVERYTHING.

So…we’re not supposed to be the watchdog for the world, but we are supposed to be the watchdog for the world’s most corrupt organization, but only if a Republican is in office, AND it involves a Texas Oilman. If a Democrat is in office, even if he’s playing golf with Ken Lay and bringing him to India with him, it’s not important, nothing matters, and no one ever has to bother checking anything. Or something.

UPDATE: More on that story, from the Wapo. We’ll see where it goes. As I commented below:

From the article: Levin said the State Department and the Pentagon “have denied” the committee’s requests for information and failed to “provide answers to our questions.”

A senior State Department official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the administration had offered Levin a classified briefing on the Jordanian trade, but that Levin declined. A Pentagon spokesman, Lt. Col. Joe Richard, said he had not seen the report but insisted that “we’re not complicit in illegal smuggling operations.”

So, we’ll wait and see. I actually agree with Levin’s statement that we need to look at ourselves, but he is distrustful enough, to me, because he and the Democrats have been so INCESSANTLY and obviously against literally anything about/by/for Bush that no one can blame me for the skeptical eye. (Although, that said, I admit that my 3AM ramblings above were less than well-done.) :-)

As I have said before…if the democrats would be agreeable SOMEWHERE on SOMETHING this president is trying to do, maybe they’d have a little more credibility with me and about 61 million others.
