Ed Morrissey mentions that Islamists in Pakistan had a little trouble rounding up an angry mob to support Taliban-style extremism. Seems they could only find about 700 attendees. Ed says you can get a bigger crowd together for an opening of a new Krispy Kreme outlet.
I’m thinking maybe there weren’t enough cameras onhand to be bothered going out and performing.
Or, I’m thinking maybe this is another one of those “I blame Bush” moments.
The rest of the world assumed nothing could be done – that the “angry Arab street” was simply a fact of life that must be endured. As near as I can tell, only one man stood up and said, no…we aren’t going to endure it anymore. We’re gonna help these folks see others like them get a taste of liberty…and it will change things.
It is becoming, as Varifrank has pointed out, becoming a different world, than what it was even a few years ago. Things are changing.
Two and a half years ago, there were demonstrations all over the world, millions of people brought together to march against Bush, against Blair, against any change in the status quo.
Today…there is a sort of chirping silence. Things are changing.
There is a long way to go. There have been and will be misteps – lasting change never happens in a twirl of perfection. It usually happens in a two-left feet sort of way. But it is happening.
