2 Bits of Sad, Sad news from UK (updated)

Europe has now won the right to imprison UK citizens. So much for sovereignty. This makes me very, very sad.

BRUSSELS has been given the power to compel British courts to fine or imprison people for breaking EU laws, even if the Government and Parliament are opposed.

An unprecedented ruling yesterday by the supreme court in Europe gives Brussels the power to introduce harmonised criminal law across the EU, creating for the first time a body of European criminal law that all member states must adopt. The judgment by the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg was bitterly fought by 11 EU governments, including Britain, and marks a dramatic transfer of power from national capitals to Brussels.

The Commission said that it would use its new powers only in extreme circumstances, but its officials are already talking about introducing EU crimes for overfishing, deliberate polluting, money laundering and price fixing.

This is not good. Then there is this: You’ve just landed in Eurabia.

General Doron Almog (res.), former head of the Southern Command, flew all the way to London this week, only to return home to Israel on the same plane without setting foot on British soil. His decision was based upon advice received that, were he to enter the UK, he might well find himself facing war crimes charges.

Britain is not a very pleasant place to be these days. Had Almog opened Monday’s Daily Telegraph, he would have read that Ahmad Thomson of the Association of Muslim lawyers had accused the Jews and the Freemasons of being responsible for persuading Prime Minister Tony Blair to go to war against Iraq. As he put it, “It is part of the Zionist plan and it is shaping events.”

Thomson, a barrister and convert to Islam, also accuses the Jews of controlling Europe and America and has described the claim that six million of them were murdered in the Holocaust as a “big lie.”

And if we’re talking about the Holocaust, The Daily Telegraph also reported, like The Jerusalem Post, that Downing Street is being called upon to abolish Holocaust Memorial Day. Muslims are – unsuccessfully so far – urging Tony Blair to replace it with Genocide Day in recognition of the murder of members of their faith.

Ibrahim Hewitt, chairman of the charity Interpal, is quoted as having contended in support of the proposal that “500 Palestinian towns and villages … have been wiped out . That’s pretty genocidal to me.”

No wonder Gen. Almog decided it was safer to stay on board and fly home! And he’s not the only target. Chief of Staff Dan Halutz and Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz would be wise to avoid Britain as well.

One would have thought that after the terrorist attack on London’s transportation system, British Muslims would lie low. However, this latest onslaught on a vulnerable Anglo-Jewry only serves to emphasize once again how Europe is slowly but surely turning into what some are already calling Eurabia.

There is now a real feeling of siege among the Jews of Britain. The most extraordinary anti-Jewish libels and prejudice are pouring forth from Muslims and their unholy comrades on the left — including some deracinated or pathologically embittered Jews —and yet there are no outraged or impassioned editorials condemning such bigotry, putting the record straight or warning about where all this may be leading, not just for the Jews but for the wider population. The pathological hatred of Israel and the Jews, at the very heart of which lies Holocaust denial, is central to the Muslim animus against the west. Unless this is understood, the British will never understand the danger they themselves are in. But while there is concern about Islamic extremism in Britain the assault on the Jews of Israel, and on the Jewish people as a whole, is generally put in a completely different compartment and treated to a range of attitudes stretching from indifference to endorsement.

There is therefore a real sense that the Jews are simply being abandoned — and amazingly, this seems to have increased in intensity since the July bombings in London. At present, to be a Jew in Britain feels like being under relentless ideological bombardment in a script written by Kafka. Whether it’s Holocaust denial, the lies about Israel’s ‘genocide’ of the Palestinian Arabs or the blood-lust and anarchy currently on display in Gaza, the British media are managing to blame the Jews and excuse their attackers.
