When linking to this wonderful live Adoration site, which I’d mentioned here, a site provided by the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters, I noticed they have a new link whereby you can pay for the flowers they use to decorate the altar, in remembrance of someone, or in Thanksgiving for something, or for your own intention, or someone else’s.
The notice reads:
Flowers for the Altar
Altar flowers for the week of Sunday, June 03, 2007 are for the special intentions of [name].
Please join us in prayer for the following intentions:
For the intentions of [name].
And I just thought…how cool is that? You slip the sisters a ten-spot and you get to decorate the altar plus have your intentions prayed for by the sisters and by all the folks who stop in there, and who are likely the sorts of folks to generously include you in their prayers at that instant.
My Father in Law is a notoriously terrible person to shop for – he never wants anything – and Father’s Day is coming…and he’s made a miraculous recovery from a stroke…guess what he’s getting for Father’s Day?
Dear Pop, Happy Fathers Day! Altar flowers have been purchased in thanksgiving for your recovery from illness!
He. Will. Love. It! I know I do!

This is a particularly great thing to do if you want to gift someone with “something small but meaningful,” particularly at a distance. I just bought flowers for my Li’l Bro Thom’s intention. He’s thrilled too!
