Why does Al Gore look like my mother, here?

Am in late and there’s much to do, but I must ask – can anyone tell me why Al Gore looks like my mother in this picture?

Is that lipstick? Has he had his eyes done? Is it botox? Why does he look like he just got done playing Mrs. Doubtfire and forgot to use the cold creme? I mean…that is a drastic change in look, is it not? Or is it just me?
