Doctor Sanity has put up a second part to her excellent exposition of this morning, and it is very compelling. She reminds us of testimony before the 9/11 Commission by Sandy Berger and Condi Rice (I would only add, let us also recall Richard Clarke prefacing his testimony with his apology for “failing.”) She also has a snippet between Jamie Gorelick and Sandy Berger, some 8 months before 9/11, during which they discussed cyberterrorism. You’ll want to go read it.
Also, Ed Morrissey notes: Interestingly, the New York Times changed its headline overnight from “9/11 Commission’s Staff Ignored Military’s Early Identification of Chief Hijacker” to “9/11 Commission’s Staff Rejected Report on Early Identification of Chief Hijacker”. Nothing else changed in the story except the headline. Did the Times feel uncomfortable with the clearly accurate first headline and want to attract less attention in the blogosphere?
Meanwhile, Redstate is wondering if some of omitting of information wasn’t about suppressing the story of Atta meeting at Iraq’s Prague Embassy, a story which gives some credence to the idea that Saddam had – if nothing else – knowledge of the 9/11 preparations. Recall that the day after 9/11, the only Embassy in NY which did not fly its flag at half staff was…the Iraqi Embassey.
Redstate maintains that he does not know yet if his theory is right – of course – this is all conjecture at this point. But…if he is correct…this story could be enormous. John Podhoretz has more, and Ed Morrissey has yet more on the what the Prague connection could mean.
