Okay, permit me to brag a little, here, because I must, I simply must, if only because poor Buster has been so sick…
I’ve mentioned that Buster is musical. He plays alto and tenor sax, clarinet, flute, keyboards, guitar, banjo and ukelele. And blues harminica. The strings and harmonica are self taught. He also has a huge, four-octave basso profundo that he hopes will get him a scholarship, somewhere in two more years.
So, yesterday Buster auditioned for a particularly select Jazz Ensemble – it’s a group with a really excellent reputation and not easy to get into. He went in feeling a little trepidatious because he’d been too sick to practice the audition pieces.
Today he discovered he not only made the ensemble, he is first tenor sax.
Okay, okay, I KNOW we’re not supposed to brag, we’re just supposed to humbly thank God for all good things (and I do! I do!). But I had to just share it. I’m so proud of this kid – he works so hard and with such dedication, toward his goals. His brother does, too, in ways that I can’t even begin to comprehend.
I have learned a lot from my kids.
