Ah, it’s approaching fast! I have two suggestions for you, and neither of ’em will make you fat! First, the good Carmelite Monks behind Mystic Monk Coffee offer their “Chocolate Cherry Coffee” in regular or decaf, and it is delish. I am not usually a fan of chocolate flavors in my coffee, but we picked up a bag of this and it really is chocolate-cherry tasty. I usually drink it with just milk, but occasionally I’ll use a little sugar... Read more

I call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live… —Deuteronomy 30:19-20a As I mentioned yesterday, today Barack Obama’s first act as president will be precisely what Bill Clinton’s “first act” as President was: he will make a token offering to Moloch by freeing up US funds (they come from your pocket, remember) to pay for overseas... Read more

Alright, I haven’t indulged my inner fashionista in a long time, but I must comment about Michelle Obama’s Inaugural styles. First off, Mrs. Obama looked fantastic in this Narciso Rodriguez creation for the pre-inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial. She looked comfortable, the black-and-tan was dynamite on her and she looked warm; by far my favorite of her outfits. Everything about it – FABULOUS! Unfortunately, she did not look anywhere near as comfortable, or as warm, at the inauguration, but... Read more

Keep checking back here, as I will continually update with reactions…(Scroll Down for Updates) Gross. Sorry, he is not the Lamb of God. We already have one. As I said below, President Obama’s Inaugural speech was very well presented, and there were a few stirring phrases in there, but it also had some weak points and cheap shots and – Shrum to the contrary – I don’t believe the thing will be “engraved”. Or maybe it will, if the Triumphalism... Read more

One of the best-delivered inaugural addresses I’ve ever heard, although “we are ready to lead once more” seems inappropriate to me – (and to Ann Althouse, too) – as Bush has led the whole world in fighting terrorism and AIDS) and a touching farewell as President and Mrs. Obama saw off the Bush’s, and one really can hope that finally the tone can change and we can enter into a post-partisan era. But I think perhaps the left does not... Read more

Because someone asked me to, I was going to record a rosary, for iPod use or whatever, but it seems there will be no podcasts for a while. My computer was recently repaired – yes, I really do need a new one, but it’s not in the budget – and is now so noisy that there is no way to record anything. Sorry about that. I actually did want to do it, too. Anyhow, if you’re interested in past podcasts,... Read more

Amazing footage: US Air Splashdown. Watching those people evacuate is really something. Thank God for good news. As the doorman said, “well, bust my buttons!” It seems Tony Blankley has visited my humble abode and said some very nice things. I’m blushing. No, really. But that was very nice; thanks. I would add that I share the same experience with Blankley; I get the papers and leave them unread because I get it all online. But…we do need our crossword... Read more

Rescheduled for posting later: Double Hollyhocks via Burgess Seed & Plant Co. I love winter and snow, but I hate ice and these cold temps are a little wearying, so I am perusing a seed catalogue and imagining the warm sun on my face and my fingers in the freshly turned soil…I want wildflowers in my backyard, and daisies and daylillies…and the game to begin. I also want need a new coffeemaker. Here I am drinking what is unquestionably the... Read more

Settle in for a long ‘un, kiddies. Start here (h/t Ann Althouse): Hey, according to the press, wars are challenging, serious and difficult to win. Funny how perceptions change when parties change in the White House, innit? Iraq suddenly looks different, too! Or…actually…maybe the same! President Bush has declared Washington DC a state of emergency to help secure and pay for Obama’s inaugural. Most expensive inaugural ever. In a time of (if the left is to be believed) “unprecedented hardship... Read more

Sorry so quiet today; I actually have a bunch of tabs all lined up of things I want to link to or talk about, but this was one of those days where the running around started early and hasn’t really stopped yet. There’s a lot going on – including a “project” I am seriously in need of sitting down and finishing before Lent, which will come all-too-quickly, as long as I am not ready. That’s how it works, right? If... Read more
