So, this is what flip-flopping on sticking to public campaign funding will get you: enough money to buy 1/2 hour chunks of tv air time, just before an election. Wow. Good thing there’s no fairness doctrine yet, eh? This once again proves my point that Obama and his campaign are bad strategists…or perhaps it proves John McCain’s point that Obama doesn’t know the difference between a strategy and a tactic. Because if Obama was REALLY smart, he’d forget the networks... Read more

In case you’re wondering, the Great Big Continuous Public Bible Read instigated by Pope Benedict XVI is still going on, and they’re up to Ezekiel 14. It’s in Italian, but still awesome to check in on from time to time. There are musical interludes between books. I’m loving it. As I wrote here, this will bear fruit! It doesn’t really matter if no one listens. Some will, some won’t. The major portion of the Word will be read to no... Read more

Election 2004 H/T Gatewaypundit I’m getting a sense that some people are freaking out, out there, that it’s three weeks to election and so it’s time to hyperventilate. Of course that’s not true. Three weeks is still a huge chunk of time in an election, and things turn on a dime. The whole point of the big “landslide” story is the press helping Obama out some more; it is meant to make you despair and not go vote. It’s a... Read more

ACORN – as I believe I predicted some time back – has managed to register 105% of Indianapolis to vote in this election. We knew this election year would be the bold and ripe with fraud. I think I predicted a 105% turnout in St. Louis. Shana’s got a new design – short and to the point. I told her she should get some buttons and tee shirts ready to go with the bumpersticker. Her Zazzleshop is here. She has... Read more

The Sisters of Life are a wonderful bunch of gals dedicated to the service of pregnant women in difficult circumstances. Founded by the mighty Cardinal John O’ Connor, they – in offering support, shelter, social representation and other opportunities – and by supporting the dying, they work against the culture of death, everyday. While some would champion government programs as the answer to every problem, these women, and other faith-based and community-interested programs, working outside the government, do what bureaucracies... Read more

Remember to whisper up a prayer for Dean Barnett, of the Weekly Standard, who is in ICU suffering a Cystic Fibrosis attack. He’s a great writer, a true gentleman, smart as hell and very, very kind. And he’s in my prayerbook. Read more

It occurs to me that neither McCain nor Obama particularly “glittered” last night, largely because of the debate format, and I blame Brokaw for it. Senator McCain is known to be at his best in a free-for-all Townhall format. He’s comfortable mixing it up, and that’s why he invited Sen. Obama to do a series of ten of them over the summer. Obama is known to be at his worst in such a format and understandably refused McCain’s offer. But... Read more

In a very interesting post that you’ll want to ponder, House of Eratosthenes recalls this old post of mine. I think it is a really good question to revisit from time to time: As before: What’s Wrong With The World in 100 Words or Less About 100 years ago, a British paper invited many writers to answer the same question, What’s Wrong With the World? They extended the invitation to G. K. Chesterton who wrote back: Dear Sirs; I am.... Read more

Good heavens that was the most boring townhall debate I’ve ever seen. No “moments” to it. Both the Kerry/Bush and Gore/Bush townhalls were a great deal more informative and persuasive. Brokaw needed more input from the audience and less from his gasbag self. I am told it was better on radio, but to me neither one of the candidates brought their A game, tonight. Both seemed like they needed a cup of Mystic Monk Coffee Vodkapundit says McCain won, just... Read more
