Andrew Stuttaford at NRO says Bill Clinton embarrassed himself in this bit of blabbering, and I agree. Andrew writes: Leaving aside the fact that the prohibition on depiction of Mohammed is by no means as clear-cut as Clinton pretends to think, we have to deal with the fact that Clinton believes that images that “offend’ the beliefs of one religious faith should not even be created, let alone published. And they call Pat Robertson intolerant? And then there’s this: “But... Read more

In one of his best posts ever, Frank Martin breaks the news that the UAE has been moving cargo in and out of JFK Airport for a while, now. Oh, and Westinghouse, which is a major operator of our nuclear energy sources is UK owned, but Toshiba may be buying it. I’m glad all of this is coming out. Whether this news makes it beyond the blogs is another thing, though. UPDATE: Gateway Pundit reminds Hillary Clinton (and the rest... Read more

Okay – I’m back. A little slappy and rubber-kneed, like a boxer who has gone 9 rounds fighting outside his weight. But I’m back. And I thank you, so many of you, for your prayers. I believe I felt them. It’s a terrible thing – or one feels like a terrible human being – when one is given awful news about another human being and that news sends one’s focus completely inward, in a self-interested manner, instead of outward, to... Read more

I learned last night that a family member ffamily has cancer that has metastasized to several spots, although its origin is still unknown. A great deal of pain is involved. and the prognosis is not good. Why do I feel like half the time I spend on this blog I’m writing about the impending deaths of family members and friends? This is a member of my birth family, and there is a complicated – and searingly painful – history there.... Read more

Please go avail yourself of this wonderful post at Counseling Kevin, The World Wanders With Me Tonight. I am reprinting Chesterton’s poem here, because it was something that I absolutely needed to read, tonight, and I want it here. The Holy Spirit has a way of providing us with precise and perfect aid, at all times. But go read it at Kevins, because he has along with it a wonderful video of Josh Groban singing Gira Con Me. Read the... Read more

This guy’s take might be a little more reliable than what we’re getting from the MSM. Not hearing much from the press about Iraqi Displays of Unity, are you? I’ll trust Victor Davis Hanson, too. Read more

I love the fact that Christopher Hitchens organized a march in DC, before the Danish embassy, in support of Denmark. Pictures of the rally here. Instapundit has more. And someone sent this to me a few days ago, but I’d forgotten to link to it – a wonderful piece on a wonderful composer and another way to support Denmark. More solidarity here. UPDATE: Got a nice email from “Brian” who was at the march and describes it: I would say... Read more

Via Instapundit: Students Hail Harvard President. If Harvard University President Lawrence H. Summers was worried about how the undergraduates would greet him Wednesday night at his first scheduled event since announcing his resignation, those fears quickly were put to rest. He got a standing ovation after he walked in. He got a standing ovation before he left. A row of students with red letters painted on their chests spelled out “Larry.” […] somewhere in the controversy surrounding Summers is evidence... Read more

I’m glad to hear from Terrorism Unveiled that the suicide bomber attack on a Saudi oil facility failed. And I am glad to read Peter Brooks’ assertion at NRO that this failure represents AlQ weakness. That’s all well and good. But we still have to shudder and worry about our economy every time something like this is tried. And why? Because although the GOP has the majority, we still can’t access our own oil reserves. Thanks, guys. It’s times like... Read more
