You know, after all the madness, and Ted Kennedy’s overdramatic rhetoric, I think this man is going to sit and be a sterling justice. And THEN what are the Democrats going to do? It’s kind of like when Benedict XVI was elevated to the papacy, and all the chattering “progressives” were weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth and predicting doom, gloom, fascist crackdowns within the church, etc. Now, Benedict has shown himself to be beautifully pastoral, gentle, loving and... Read more

Once again, I thank everyone who is offering prayers for Jane’s children. They will need your prayers for a long time. Yesterday I learned that when it was learned that Jane was sick, the craftsmen of the parish immediately went to work on her house, an old house badly in need of repair everywhere. As you can imagine, a woman left by her husband with a (then) 7, 2 and 1 year old had no money or time for serious... Read more

I cannot believe this. No one can. Two days after a wonderful Christmas she has a backache that sends her to a doctor. Jane was not doctor-phobic. Being the sole provider for her children, she understood that she needed to stay healthy. She ate right, she had yearly check-ups, mammograms, etc. There was no clue that anything was wrong, and yet the doctors last week said this growth inside her was so massive it must have been going on for... Read more

Friends, blogging will be light to nothing today and maybe for a little while. My friend is dying. My head is spinning. We have known each other for 20 years, having met as volunteers for the church youth group. We had children together. Hers are now 21, 16 and 15. When the youngest was 1, her husband left the family and never had any dealing with the children again. Jane was left to raise them alone, struggling and working part-time... Read more

Kobayashi Maru writes of Abel. Seems remarkably timely given the state of the world. Please read. Read more

Ace makes the very good point today that the Washington Post deserves some kudos for daring to stick to the facts in the face of pressure to simply mouth Howard Deans talking points. The left is howling about Deborah Howell’s remarks that Jack Abramoff “gave” money to both parties. The sinestrosphere continues pushing — strenuously– the disingenuous Howard Dean line that “no Abramoff money went to Democrats.” CBS’s Public Eye has been following the story, too. Howell even offered up... Read more

Hey, I said I was going to get the kid through the first quarter of school without illness, and here he made through almost TWO quarters – so we’re not doing too badly, here! :-) Actually, I think Buster was just too busy to get sick. Now that most of his committments are over, yesterday was a day-off school, for particular testing, and I think a day with nothing to do simply made Buster’s body go, “Okay, we’re done with... Read more

…it’s no easy thing. Charles Krauthammer writes an elegant and eloquent tribute to his brother. Without specifically expressing his pain, the reader feels it. Keenly. Read more

I’m sure some in the press are wondering if they didn’t make a huge error in demanding an investigation into the so-called Plame-leak. Reading this from Tom Maguire and this from AJ Strata – it seems so. Strata also has a “for now” wrap up on the NSA/FISA court leaks. Which I think are about to come under investigation, right? All kinds of precedents came from the Plame investigation. Should be interesting. Read more
