Via Link Mecca (via Michelle Malkin): From AP“When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I’m talking about,” Clinton, D-N.Y., told the crowd at the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem. “It has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard.” From USA Today: Speaking... Read more

Hugh Hewitt is surprised that Benedict placed so low, but I suppose that most of the folks naming these 50 Most Influential Christians in America are not Catholic and wouldn’t be thinking of him. Of course, Hugh isn’t Catholic, either, but he’s very attentive and notices everything! Then again, Sean Hannity IS a Catholic, and he’s ranked higher than Benedict! I’m sure he’d be surprised to see that! I’m actually surprised to see any Catholic names on the list at... Read more

Christopher Hitchens declares that its all over but the singing for AlQaeda in Iraq, and he lays out a persuasive case: The best news from Iraq this year would certainly be the long New York Times report of Jan. 12 on the murderous strife between local “insurgents” and al-Qaida infiltrators. This was also among the best news from last year. For months, coalition soldiers in Iraq had been telling anyone who would care to listen that they had noticed a... Read more

A pal sent me to this site to check out the two trailer ads for some sort of television programming for February (during sweeps, natch!) It looks to be verrrrrrry interesting! What do you think the “Secret” is? Known by the great movers and shakers of the world, banned by the church? Freemasonry? Illuminati stuff? Alien ships crashing to earth? Nostradamus? Kabbalah? A mad conspiracy? I’m not a tv watcher, but this certainly piqued my interest. I expect some folks... Read more

A great idea, a great statement. N.Z. Bear makes an appeal from center-right bloggers. We are not naive about lobbying, and we know it can and has in fact advanced crucial issues and has often served to inform rather than simply influence Members. But we are certain that the public is disgusted with excess and with privilege. We hope the Hastert-Dreier effort leads to sweeping reforms including the end of subsidized travel and other obvious influence operations. Just as importantly,... Read more

Writes JunkyardBlog: Al Gore Plans to rail against Bush’s “police state”. Yet, oddly enough, he won’t spend a second in jail afterward. And he knows it. Sort of gives lie to the whole idea that we’re living in a “police state,” doesn’t it? Because if we lived in an actual police state, and Gore said what he plans to say next week, the police state would arrest him, jail him and probably hang him when it got around to it.... Read more

Hugh Hewitt directs us to James Q Wilson’s review of The Prince of the City : Giuliani, New York and the Genius of American Life by Cooper Union Professor Fred Siegel. The review is a rave. Hugh says it is an endorsement for Rudy for President. Sounds great, I gotta get it; if you gotta get it, too, please see my bookshelf in the sidebar. As always, any moneys realized via Amazon sales are donated to my brother’s hospice. You... Read more

Ms. Noonan has the best commentary I’ve read about the Alito hearings. Best because she is – as they say in My Cousin Vinny – “dead on balls accurate” about the whole process, and about both Alito and Biden, and because she’s funny without being malicious. But what interests me most is Judge Alito, and his ability to just sit there and listen. To show nothing, like a stunned ox, or, as Sen. Dianne Feinstein put in on CNN, like... Read more

Dean says Maybe! My elder son brought the Firefly DVD collection home from college with him and we all got hooked over the Christmas vacation. Last night my husband and I (patiently waiting for Netflix to send us Serenity) were complaining that the series was gone and woe-is-us, no more movies…and here it was something the whole family was enjoying! A great series…actually reminds me a little bit of the Japanese anime series, Cowboy Bebop. Only even better. :-) My... Read more
