That’s why they’re not worth reading – ever. But Bulldogpundit at least explains WHY. And HOW. Read more

The boy had to bring in to school an article about environmentalism – it could be about anything – about “global warming” or endagered species, or the Kyoto protocols, anything. They had to read the piece and write up a commentary on it. Extra credit. Buster used this excellent piece by James K. Glassman, which I had actually linked to back in August: In a surprise move that caught Europe’s smug moralists and the environmental movement’s noisy extremists flatfooted, the... Read more

Yesterday, I tried to express a feeling I had about the excesses of ideological partisanship and how they can effect us interiorly. I was not speaking of anyone, specifically (except myself) but rather I was thinking about left and right, about how our political passions can overrun our humanity, sometimes, and make us behave in ways that seem quite outside of our instincts. I didn’t write it well, though, and I ticked off a few people. I’m not apologizing for... Read more

Two interesting posts from Reliapundit: The first is a look at the Whistleblower Protection Act which signed into law, and his remarks. The second clarifies that whoever leaked the classified NSA info, they are not whistleblowers but REAL LEAKERS. Just in case you need any of it spelled out for you. Read more

Democrats plan to destroy Alito. Democrats hope to tie Alito to Concerned Alumni of Princeton (CAP). Alito will testify that he joined CAP as a protest over Princeton policy that would not allow the ROTC on campus. THE DRUDGE REPORT has obtained a Summer 1982 article from CAP’s PROSPECT magazine titled “Smearing The Class Of 1957” that key Senate Democrats believe could thwart his nomination! In the article written by then PROSPECT editor Frederick Foote, Foote writes: “The facts show... Read more

Got two interesting emails today. No, three. First one was from someone who said he/she didn’t much like me and found me “unscrutable.” Ironically, I’m not sure what the writer means. Please advise whether you mean I am “inscrutable” or “unscrupulous.” Second one told me to be alert because if Sharon recovered from his stroke, it would be like the Beast in Revelation, “who also recovered from a head wound,” and thus we would know that Sharon was the Beast.... Read more

That seems to be the real scoop in James Risen’s book, says Michael Ledeen. Hmmm. ML: Have you read that excerpt from the Risen book, State of War, that was in Thursday’s Guardian? JJA: Indeed I have. I was hoping that’s why you called. It’s simply amazing. Unbelievable. ML: You mean the buffoonery by the CIA operations directorate that Risen talks about? JJA: Well, obviously. But the really amazing part is that Risen doesn’t even notice the truly horrible aspects... Read more

Four important pieces on Islam and the West. 1) Vanderleun brings us what he calls a counter-intuitive essay by Kip Watson at Truth and Hope. Watson’s thesis is that the majority of the world’s Muslims are captives along the lines of the ancient Jews, and that there are plenty of Pharaohs to be found. The Muslims of the West have no Moses, but they have a thousand Pharaohs. Pharaoh is a product of the West, but he is not ruler... Read more

Gone too soon from lung cancer. One of my all-time favorites. I love Joe Williams because he was so straight-up manly and musical, virile and vulnerable. And I love Ella because her supple voice and astonishingly natural phrasing just plumb my depths and make me shiver and long for something just beyond my grasp. I loved Rawls because, like Marvin Gaye, his voice was sexy but so accessible; whether growling or soaring, both seemed to expend no effort – they... Read more

Matteo has a great read at Cartago Delenda Est, on the subject of intelligent design, and the superiority of science-unrestricted-by-religion. Basically he reprints parts of an essay In praise of Godless science and then encourages the author to go forward with what Matteo calls an “amazing piece of projection.” On Intelligent Design, I say only that there should be room for both theories to be explored in a classroom, and that Darwinism should be taught as unproved theory, not fact.... Read more
