The list is so-so. My personal choice: “some say…” Used continually by Katie Couric, David Gregory and oh, basically anyone in the press who wanted to advance their own personal opinion or the general concensus of the fourth estate: “Some say President Bush is trying to undermine our civil liberties,” “Some say Iraq is a quagmire,” “Some say America is a world-bully,” “Some say if only the Kyoto treaty had been recognised…” Just once, I would like to hear a... That would seem to be the consensus although the film always gave me ants in the pants; I prefer “Holy Grail,” myself. I’m not complaining, though, because the article has created folks googling the lyrics to “Every Sperm is Sacred,” and that is leading them, willingly or not, to this old post! :-) The Holy Spirit moves in mysterious ways. I didn’t see the show, yesterday – it can be viewed here but my brother Thom did and wrote this about it in an email: Jon Meacham was reflecting on how two of the great figures of the last part of the 20th century were actors — Reagan and John Paul. And he said “I think politicians and preachers are both charged with a particularly difficult responsibility — to convince people of a reality that they cannot see.” That just... Read more
This is pretty cool. In keeping with an old Catholic tradition, the A Catholic Life blog offered to pull patron saints for the coming year for any who wanted one. St. Juliana Falconieri was pulled for me, and without going into the personal reasons why, it seems a very good, even providential match-up! Professionally, I’ll need her help this year, too, as I complete a writing project concerning illness and the dying. Dymphna has a different Juliana! Thanks to Moneybags... Read more
Seems to me she completely nailed it. She’s brilliant, or the Dems are THAT transparent and predictable. Or both! :-) Read more
News scoops spell disaster for intelligence. It’s an idea I’ve read here and there in comments sections of blogs and forums, but now AJ Strata is wondering if a class-action law suit against the leaking press, by the American public which is left vulnerable through their folly, is not a doable idea. Are we to expect every day for the foreseeable future political partisans (and let’s be honest here, that is what is motivating these ‘whistleblowers’ – they want democrats... Read more
Since this is, for reasons I don’t understand, getting lots of hits googled hits today, I’ll repost, from August, 2004, when the GOP was holding its convention in NYC: America is wide awake, and dreaming glorious dreams “You are such a shy person,” my husband asked as we drove home from a long, pretty good concert this evening. “You stammer and get red whenever you meet a stranger. How is it you manage, time after time, to get into these... Read more
I’m not a poster-of-dreams in this blog, but I had a nightful of lulu’s and they are still zipping through my head like scenes from a Tarantino movie watched under the influence of NyQuil, so I’m going to write them out and then you folks can laugh yourselves silly at my subconscious – or those three insightful bloggers Dr. Sanity (talking self-esteem and self-worship, today) or, Shrinkwrapped (exploring bear-baiting) and Sigmund (writing about misplaced hero-worship) can declare me certifiable for... Overheard in NY: Toddler boy: Look, Daddy! The airport! Dad: That’s the moon, Milo. –86th & 3rd The moon is where I feel like I’ve been! If I ever tell me kids they can have all their friends over, and that everyone can sleep over, and also have my best pal and her family over, and agree to watch a freaking football game – which you know I hate football – and then have to watch a weakened Dick Clark...
