This is a hoot! The NY Times editorial board presents us with an irresistable irony, and the headline says it all: Ignore the Man Behind That Memo. The man, btw, is SCOTUS nominee Sam Alito, who – gasp – wrote a memo in 1985, yes, twenty years ago – that deeply troubles this writer: First, he has extreme views on the law. Actually, if you read further, he has “extreme views” on that one law, Roe v. Wade (and a... Read more

I hardly ever respond to comments in my comments section (am I bad if I admit that sometimes I don’t even do more than hastily skim the comments?) and it is even more unusual for me to respond to one of them with a blog post, but Joe Marshall at Straight Shot of Politics made a comment in this post wherein he stipulated that all of my complaints about the press were justified and then wrote: You have told us,... Read more

Wow! What a compilation! I look at the NY Times as if it were an aging relative with dementia. There’s nothing to be done with this paper but shuffle it quietly aside into a long term care facility. No one can trust what it is written in its pages. All the Gray Lady has to look forward to is a complimentary elegy at her funeral which tactfully ignores the misdeeds of her declining years. Go. Read. And don’t tell me... Read more

Sometimes Beth at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy just cracks me up sometimes. Like, here. Also, she is bribing her mother to nominate her for blog awards. No need, Beth, I’ll nominatecha! Read more

From the Tarpit Blog, Hillary Clinton, 2002: I believe the authority to use force to enforce that mandate is inherent in the original 1991 UN resolution, as President Clinton recognized when he launched Operation Desert Fox in 1998. You’ll want to read the whole thing. I think the Dems need to put down this particular tactic, because now that people seem to finally be paying attention to what bloggers have been saying for a 14 months, they’re looking increasingly craven... Read more

It is NOT the function of the White House to do so. The people there should not have to waste their time correcting what are supposed to be the truth-tellers in the news-reporting industry. But clearly the WH has finally figured out that the various Departments of Disinformation within the MSM DO need to have their pronouncements countered. I am glad it is finally being done someplace other than the blogs. But honestly, it’s almost a year too late. The... Read more

Buster and Elder Brother always find it snicker-worthy that Pop-Pop served in Alaska during the Korean conflict, and that he brought home a big wolfhound that used to bark at my MIL if she tried to kiss him (the dog didn’t last long). Today President Bush addressed some of our troops in Alaska. As with the Whitehall Speech, we’re seeing scant coverage in the press, but the speech is worth reading. A few excerpts: Each of you is a volunteer.... Read more

Well, pardners it looks to be another one o’ them hoary – that’s hoary, not whore-y, getcher dad-blamed mind outta the gutters, now lissen up! It’s-a one o’ them hoary days when a gal has to drive a Buster here and there, far and yonder and a kitten cain’t jus’ sit here a-typin’ and a-rantin’ all day when they’s things to do! Ass-rot, I got things to do! Din I jes’ say to git yer mind outta the gutter! You... Read more

I think David Warren is a really terrific, thoughtful and reflective writer who tends to see things not quickly noticed by others. This piece is a stand-out must-read: As the 20th century progressed, we saw two great ideological manifestations of an Atheism inconceivable to the European past — respectively Communism, and Nazism. Together they committed horrors on such a scale, as to cause a partial recoil into belief. I’ve come to think the recovery of “traditional Christianity”, “family values”, the... Read more

Maybe we ought to just elect some of these GOP women to the senate – they seem to have more spine and maybe even more testosterone than our “elected public servants.” Take Jane over at Armies of Liberation who was just looked at by al-Jazeera: …the host said to me: well you’re one of the most controversial guests we’ve had, since a Yemeni newspaper published an announcement of your appearance and we’ve recieved a flood of email condemning your appearence... Read more
