Especially not a female judge. Or, maybe… H/T Miss Mabrouk of Egypt who also advises that Ramadan soap operas are going anti-terror. …But every night at 10, the Refaat family gathers in their living room to watch the most talked about show in the Middle East, “Al Hoor al Ain” (The Beautiful Virgins). It’s loosely based on the November 2003 bombing in Saudi Arabia that killed 18 people, all of them Arab. And it’s one of a handful of shows... Read more

This is the crap that makes me crazy about the press! Would folks in the press want their own 90-year old mothers to be hounded like this? I’m sure they would not! But they don’t mind doing it to someone else’s mother. She’s not Rose Kennedy, spotlight savvy and ready to smile for the cameras! She’s just a lady who raised a son! Leave her the hell alone! People’s families should be off-limits. And once again, the press should remember... Read more

A good question. If stealing and destroying secret documents, stuffing them into your pants and then lying about it isn’t a crime worthy of jail time, why is having a different recollection of events than Tim Russert? If the charges swirling around Scooter Libby — that he deceived those investigating a crime for which he was not charged — seem familiar, they should. Not long ago Martha Stewart was indicted and convicted, not of insider trading in a suspiciously timed... Read more

This is pretty cool – I’ve been looking for something to crochet. I like this idea. UPDATE: It is very odd who the Holy Spirit moves, sometimes. I cannot believe the amount of email this little post has generated. Julie at Happy Catholic sends along a link to this book on the spirituality of knitting (or in my case crocheting) prayer shawls. Then commenter Sal linked here (looks like a good one!) Then I got an email from jury…you won’t... Read more

Plamegate needs congressional investigation. It always has. Powerline heavily excerpts an important piece in today’s WSJ wherein Victoria Toensing lays out a convincing case that Plamegate has been either a monumental screw up by the CIA OR a planned-out, genuine attempt within that organization, to take down the president, with built-in loopholes to allow it to happen. This is very troubling and compelling stuff. This is part and parcel of the Painless Coup. The press ain’t talkin’ about it. But... Read more

So putting the Stunt of ’05 on the couch of political and social deconstruction, here’s what it means, I think: Governing is now a quaint euphemism for campaigning; campaigning is easy, governing is hard. – Dick Meyer on “The Endless Campaign” that is modern Democrat leadership. It might be modern GOP leadership, too, except I frankly think the GOP haven’t the spines to actually do anything so overt. Meyer writes: Acting out often works in the short term. Many children... Read more

I have been corresponding with a friend who is enduring the loss of a beloved family member; his grief is still very new. My grief for my brother S is a little older. It was just a bare week or so ago that I noted the passing of one year since he entered hospice. The grief is older, but not much easier. I have lost birth-mother, birth-father, one brother from my birth family, one brother from my new family (my... Read more

Alexandra at All Things Beautiful, one of the most unique spots in the blogosphere, is experimenting with a rather unique idea: Discussing the SCOTUS nomination of Judge Samuel Alito, within the blogosphere, both left and right, without name-calling, hysterical rants or invective. A brave idea! The revival of communication between the right and the middle of the Blogosphere surely needs to start with the establishment of mutual respect, then mutual understanding of what each other’s issues are, then one can... Read more

Sister Toldjah has an extensive compare-and-contrast this morning, over how the press covers a white man comparing the Congressional Black Caucus and – being shut out – drawing a comparison to the KKK and Charlie Rangel and Al Sharpton’s “Bush is the New Bull Connor” remark. Surprisingly, the Rangel and Sharpton poison gets little coverage, none of it critical, while the other….well…Sister’s got the story. Read more
