I had always thought the “Body Works” exposition sounded pretty interesting, and had assumed that the bodies used for the exhibit were donated for the purpose. Fausta tells us this seems not to be the case. If she is right, the show needs to be closed down and the bodies returned to the families of those exploited. Read more

In all my reading, I can’t believe I missed this, but Ace didn’t. From the much linked-to LA Times article: Times-Picayune Editor Jim Amoss cited telephone breakdowns as a primary cause of reporting errors, but said the fact that most evacuees were poor African Americans also played a part. “If the dome and Convention Center had harbored large numbers of middle class white people,” Amoss said, “it would not have been a fertile ground for this kind of rumor-mongering.” That’s... Read more

The day got away from me before I could link to some blogs and columns I particularly wanted to share with you folks, so real quick: Lorie Byrd wrote a very excellent column featured in Townhall.com (go, Lori!), in which she opines that after Katrina and Rita she is ready to start seriously considering Rudy Giuliani for President, despite his pro-abortion positions. I personally feel that if Rudy can reign himself in a bit in that regard, he has a... Read more

I love this. You’ll just have to check it out and you will love it, too. This is also eye-opening. Oh and btw – occasionally some email me wondering why I blog anonymously. Here is your answer. Read more

I have several times tipped the hat to Dick Meyer over at CBS, as being a journalist who – while quick to defend his profession, which is a healthy thing – is also in possession of a singular gift of balance and intellectual honesty. Meyer is the Editorial Director of The Public Eye, CBS’s new experimentation in blogging, and he has put together a feisty, likeable (and blogroll-worthy) product, heavy on media-issues, but thus far free of the lapses into... Read more

I don’t know why, but it seems that a lot of folks are accessing this post today. I’d forgotten I’d even written it. I think this is from when I really did just totally stop reading her. I don’t think it’s unfair. I think it’s really and truly a sincere attempt to help the woman get her groove back. Whatever. Read more

Sigh, the GOP is so spineless. Chuck Schumer’s staff participate in some dirty tricks ONE (yes, one) major news outlet slaps their wrists before the story utterly, utterly disappears…just exactly as it would have were a Republican senator’s staffers caught doing the same thing…right? Unimpressive, spineless GOP wrings its hands and gets tough with Schumer. It says…will you promise not to do dirty tricks to us again? Do you promise???? Cross your heart and hope to die, with whipped cream... Read more

Pentagon says a top Zarqawi Aide is dead, thanks to US Special Forces. You know, Special Forces, like Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon. Azzam is the latest in a series of top Zarqawi deputies that have been killed or captured by coalition forces in recent months. Zarqawi’s Al Qaeda in Iraq (search) group has taken responsibility for some of the country’s most horrific acts of terror including car bombings, kidnappings and beheadings of Iraqi civilians and westerners. Earlier this month... Read more

Lots of stories concerning Hurricane Katrina and its chaos and aftermath are turning out to be wild exaggerations or outright lies. The NO Times-Picayune admits it. Michelle Malkin has quite a lot on the subject (no surprise, there), including the thoughts of the Powerline guys who have some questions for the press about accountability. Good questions, too. I think they should be asked, since – as Drudge highlighted this morning – Hillary Clinton thinks there should be “gatekeepers” who can... Read more

Alright – lots of things I want to share with you, including a naughty limerick, so if you’re the delicate type who can’t bear to read/hear the eff word or if you are the sort who believes my printing a bad word deserves a wagging-finger-of-admonishment via email, then save yourself the palpitations and the wear and tear on your fingers and scroll past this post. I mean it, you’ve been warned. Jack Kelly at Irish Pennants gives us three good... Read more
