Well, this IS amazing, and only 15 days into it, to! But let Michelle tell it, because she was such a force behind keeping the story alive (and as you know, I doubted, so I get to stand in the corner!): After 15 days of silence, the New York Times has filed a thin little report on the Air Scamerica/Air Enron fiasco. But you need a magnifying glass to find it. Go the the NYTimes.com homepage. Nothing there. Click over... Read more

Doctor Sanity has put up a second part to her excellent exposition of this morning, and it is very compelling. She reminds us of testimony before the 9/11 Commission by Sandy Berger and Condi Rice (I would only add, let us also recall Richard Clarke prefacing his testimony with his apology for “failing.”) She also has a snippet between Jamie Gorelick and Sandy Berger, some 8 months before 9/11, during which they discussed cyberterrorism. You’ll want to go read it.... Read more

This story keeps changing, little cracks in the ceiling seem to portend a great crashing. First the 9/11 Commission didn’t know anything about Able Daring, then, yeahhhh, they heard about it but discounted it, then, yeahhhh, we heard about it twice, actually, but…but, it fell between the cracks as things were ready to go to print… Now, the word Omitted is being used, as in: Atta Intelligence Omitted From Report, as in the 9/11 Commission seems to have purposely left... Read more

There is always a BUT in these stories. When we read that the US economy is growing very well, we routinely read in the next line, BUT analysist caution that things could change at any moment, or somesuch. Because, you know, the man in the WH has the wrong letter after his name. BUT! Since this time, we’re talking about the EU, the BUT is a little different: Economic growth in the European Union as a whole and the euro... Read more

It seems to be the case. Small Dead Animals reports that Jon Stewart had wat appears to have been a very pleasant exchange about the milblogs. Last night on the Daily Show, John Stewart interviewed John Hockenberry on his upcoming article in Wired on military bloggers. Stewart has been reading milblogs and was enthusiastic and complimentary on the quality of writing – which is no surprise to those who follow the blogosphere. He seemed puzzled that the mainstream had ignored... Read more

I had not planned to write again about Mrs. Sheehan, but two things have changed my mind. The first is that Second Breakfast is posting a statement, apparently just issued to KSFO radio, supposedly from Mrs. Sheehan’s own family. I’d be happier if SB’s link to KSFO included the text of the statement and could confirm it, so I am not posting the “statement” at this time. I’m going to keep an eye on that, and see if the KFSO... Read more

I’ve been meaning to post this piece for two days, but kept forgetting, then Amy Welborn, who seems to be much better at keeping up with things than I, posted excerpts of this interview and Eureka! I remembered! You’ll want to head over to Amy’s site to read the interview with Rabbi David Dalin, the author of this book, The Myth of Hitler’s Pope. In the Frontpage piece, Rabbi Dalin writes: Many readers of the New York Times no doubt... Read more

To be honest, I’m not much of a cake-eater. Regular readers know I am a big fan of ice cream, though, and I won’t wrinkle my nose at cookies, either, as my thighs will testify. But I am utterly charmed by this fellow Warren Brown, (and his, admittedly, delicious-looking cakes) who is featured over at Cake-Eater LaShawn’s place. Look at that face and that smile! That’s a man who is successful because he clearly loves what he is doing –... Read more

So, we’re seeing a story in today’s NY Post, that some heads are rolling at Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club for its role in loaning money to Air America. But so far, apparently, no one from NY Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s office has not yet contacted Air America. Funny, all around Air America swirls controversy, bitter investors, etc, and yet…and yet…the NY Times still has – 13 days into it – not written a word on it, and the... Read more

I suspect Dr. Sanity may have something here, and IF she does – please note, I am saying IF – I hope the blogs pick it up and run with it, because I have no reason to believe – anymore – that the MSM will do its job and thoroughly investigate her ideas. If she is, in fact, correct, it is a story that demands bi-partisan, invective-free telling. Dr. Sanity is talking about the revelation recently come to light that... Read more
