Betsy Newmark points to this Karl Zinsmeister piece in the American Enterprise Magazine, and it’s worth reading. As the Wall Street Journal noted the day after July’s London bombings, the West’s “resolve continues to fade along with public memories of 9/11. For months the debate in Washington hasn’t been over how best to fight terrorists but how harshly we treat them. Rather than strengthen the Patriot Act, Congress wants to weaken it…. The press corps has wallowed in Abu Ghraib... Read more

This is a very well-done explanation of what Roman Catholics believe about the Holy Eucharist, that it is, for us, the Body and Blood of Christ, and not merely symbolism. I have never seen this site, Northwestern Winds, before, but I like! Here they have some snarky fun with the recent spate of women taking to the high seas to for some in-your-face ordinations. Found via Happy Catholic. Read more

Is that how to spell Gy-rene? Please correct me, you Marines, out there! Anyway, she’s not joining the Marines, she’s joining the Army. But Army didn’t rhyme. :-) This is a pretty cool story. Last summer, Jennifer Cabanayan appeared at community events, including the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival and the National Night Out Against Crime, as Miss Everett Teen USA 2004. Now she has enlisted in the Army and will leave for boot camp at Fort Jackson, S.C., on Aug. 11.... Read more

There is QUITE a ruckus going on in the comments section over at Ann Althouse’s place, concerning Pajamas Media and the offers it has begun making to various bloggers to become associates. I have not yet checked out any other blogs for their opinions. Ann has strong and rather negative feelings about the Pajamas Media presentation and package, and she brings her considerable intellect and legal training to bear on what she perceives to be weaknesses and problems. Gerard Vanderleun... Read more

You really must. She is blogging up a storm – just keep scrolling down. You’ll have to stop when you get here for this long but…really very interesting and moving…read. “look, marie overdosed on god knows what, and she died last night.” she said it so cold, and with out any emotion. i didn’t know what to say, i was stuck in this parallel universe for what felt like an eternity, i started to cry. “hello? you there?” her mom... Read more

Whoops, it’s Monday, and I got so involved with my Catholics-only poll that I forgot to bring you this week’s featured blog, Okie on the Lam, who was one of the very first bloggers ever to slip me into this blogroll, for which I am grateful. What Okie has that sets him apart from many bloggers is a very lucid writing style that wastes no time and gets to the point. He also ran one of the great blog serials... Read more

Several days after the Air America/Boys and Girls Club Monies story broke, the left side of the blogosphere has finally constructed its meme and decided that the best way to combat the blogswarm is repeat the word FAKE. The story is FAKE, the source is FAKE, the right-wingnuts are a bunch of FAKERS, and it’s FAKE and everyone is FAKING.. Obviously, Al Franken, author of Lying Liars and the Lies Tell had something to do with the creation of this... Read more

UPDATE: As a few kind commenters pointed out, I was quite remiss in not saying straight off that this charge being made is nothing more – at this point – than a charge that bears heavy investigating. That’s quite true. As such, take the whole thing with a grain of salt, but bear in mind that if it’s true – if the tsunami money is being misrouted into terrorist hands – then there has to be some accountability for that.... Read more

Here are two: John at Right Wing News asked conservative bloggers who were their least-favorite conservatives. I did not participate in this poll. Happily, I wasn’t named to it, either! :-) You’ll want to go over there and see who did. Also, Mark at Decision ’08 has the top ten leftist remarks upon President Bush naming UN Ambassador John Bolton via recess appointment. The originate, apparently in comments sections of lefty blogs. Read more

UPDATE: It is still being ignored by “the paper of record.” It seems the NY Sun is now covering the story of Air America’s apparent shenannigans with money marked for poor kids and elderly folk. As are CNN, Fox News the Washington Times and the NY Post. Oddly enough, though, NBC’s Today Show and the NY Times, both of which trumpeted the start of Air America as the Second Coming, have not said a word about it. Michelle Malkin has... Read more
