Jeff Jarvis reports that unchecked rampant “tolerance,” forcefully propelled by western guilt, has finally hit a wall in Europe. The pendulum has swung too far. Europe has caught on, and is setting about making corrections, fine-tuning the thing. We in America had better get to it, too. A very great and beloved friend of mine – a schoolteacher – admonished me last week with the sophistry that “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.” I love my friend, but... Read more

Sigmund Carl and Alfred (I never know which one is posting!) have two interesting posts up – both of them are very well-done, as usual, but what is striking about them is that while they are on two wildly different subjects, there remains a common thread. Here, SCA responds to Sadie from A fistful of fortnights and he’s speaking spefically about human sexuality and longing, and relationships, remarking: it is our values and not our interests that can bind us... Read more

Doug at Bogus Gold points to one of his favorite lefty blogs and celebrates the fact that – on that blog, at least – Christians are being recognised as something more than a mindless monolith. Read more

That seems to be the new policy at the LA Times. Patterico has the story and you’ll want to check back to see if the LA Times answers him…and what they make as their excuse. Read more

This seems to me like it oughta be a much bigger deal. Trey at Jackson’s Junction brings us insurgents on video and they are pre-tty darned chilling. But, I guess if you are trying to portray the US military as the bad guys, (they mistreat prisoners, they target journalists!) you don’t have the time or the inclination to show the real bad guys, unfiltered. No…let’s just talk some more about Karl Rove and the fantasies of a disappointed left, Mr.... Read more

Michael Ledeen has a very thoughtful piece at NRO, wherein he makes a potent point: …many British elites often seemed a micro-step away from saying that the world would be a better place if only Israel weren’t there. The Middle East would be so much easier, you know. It’s one of those things that few people have the courage to say up front – that many, many elites would be quite happy to see Israel simply cease to be. Ledeen... Read more

Arghghgghh! Okay, forgive the dreadful pun – I am just finally finding a bit of down time in a very busy day – and the first thing I wanted to do was connect you (if you have not seen it already) to this really well-done (and very fair) feature (the COVER STORY, no less) in the Washington Post magazine which brings together two intelligent female bloggers, Barbara O’ Brian of Mahablog and Betsy Newmark of Betsy’s Page. Writer David von... Read more

Fat Steve has put together the most complete round up of the whole Joe Wilson/Valerie Plame/Karl Rove/Niger story I have yet seen. He pulls no punches, too – I’ve never been a fan of “so-and-so must be destroyed” rhetoric, but aside from that, the compilation is a good one. You’ll want to keep in your hard drive so that in ’06 when this is allllll dredged up and re-spun, you are ready. Don’t forget to avail yourselves of the audio... Read more

I am a little perturbed. I ordered my copy of Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince ages ago, from Amazon.com, and I fear it will NOT be in my mailbox today! Amazon has not yet sent shipping notice. :-( I am terribly vexed. I had plans to read it, immediately. As we wait for Harry, I thought you would enjoy this piece by Dave Kopel from just about two years ago. Discussing John Granger’s excellent book The Hidden Key to... Read more

Innnnnnteresting. Roger L. Simon links to an audio report from ABC news, circa 1999 – where the connections between Saddam and Osama, and Saddam’s harboring of terrorists was all “understood…” UPDATE: Roger Simon has a tape you should listen to…broadcasts journalists doing in depth reporting on the connections between Osama and Saddam…and on how Iraq harbored terrorists. What was it that Bush said, after 9/11…”if you harbor terrorists…” Powerline links to ABC video reporting on the close relationships between Saddam... Read more
