Trey Jackson, whose video blog Jackson’s Junction is invaluable, (and who has a donation button to help defray the cost of his extensive operation, if yer feeling generous) has linked to CNN’s blog segment, which features bloggers writing on le affaire la Rove. You can watch the piece here. There are three bloggers featured, Betsy Newmark, the absolutely tireless Lorie Byrd and me. It is delightful to be in the same company as these two women who are among my... Read more

This is pretty funny – Ms Musings points to an article in the Chicago Tribune which quotes little ol’ me, and my piece on the London attack. Christine writes, I give the Trib points for finding a relevant response to a current issue — and for publishing a coherent excerpt — but the minor edits still reveal the Trib’s other problem with “Blog Spotting”: a discomfort with real language…the paper drew the line at terms and phrases it considered too... Read more

From my li’l brother, Thom: Recently while going through an airport during one of his many trips, President Bush encountered a man with long gray hair, wearing a white robe and sandals, holding a staff. President Bush went up to the man and said, “Has anyone told you that you look like Moses?” The man never answered. He just kept staring straight ahead. The President said, “Moses!” in a loud voice. The man just stared ahead, never acknowledging the President.... Read more

I weep for and with this mother, whose son appears to have died in the terrorism attack of 7/7. Her grief is palpable. Her words and picture have brought me to tears. My son Anthony is my first son, my only son, the head of my family. In African society, we hold on to sons. He has dreams and hopes and I, his mother, must fight to protect them. This is now the fifth day, five days on, and we... Read more

I’ve always thought Stones Cry Out was an exceptional blog peopled by intelligent, straight-up guys. In fact, I do believe that when they hit their new digs, I had predicted that the site would become “a powerhouse.” It has long been one of my favorite Evangelical-Christian-run sites. The only criticism one might have made about the place – if indeed one needed to find something to criticize – was that it was an all-boys club. But it seems that has... Read more

I’ve had two emails from people asking me my thoughts on the Pope Hates Harry story. One email was very nice and simply wanted to know my thoughts, as a Harry Potter fan. The other was rather spiteful, sneering that since the Pope didn’t like Harry I would now have to distance myself from the books or risk being a “hypocrite” and a “bad Catholic.” Because we Catholics are “mindless sheep.” What nonsense. Pope Benedict XVI is a good an... Read more

Help me out here…We’re routinely told that Americans are intolerant people, we hear idiots like Julianne Malveaux proclaim that America is a terrorist country. And yet when 3000 of our were killed in a terrorist attack, mosques were not burned down. Muslims were not attacked on the street. no one was beaten to death. Americans are constantly being told they need to learn from their betters in Europe, though. I understand the anger and distrust these people have in England... Read more

Actually, I like his thinking, and the thinking of John Podhoretz, to whom he links. Podhoretz has an interesting theory: …what if the real object of interest where Fitzgerald’s investigation is concerned is now none other than the jailed Judith Miller of the New York Times? What if she let it all slip and in the giant game of telephone around the nation’s capital, Miller was the original source of the “Plame’s in the CIA” info? What if Fitzgerald needs... Read more

Hmmm…tax revenues up – a lot. We see a 25% drop in the deficit. Unemployment down to 5%…why I remember when the press crowed that 5.6% unemployment was “full employment,” but of course, that was in the 1990’s when good news was allowed to be good news. …an unexpected leap in tax revenue is about to shrink the federal budget deficit this year, by nearly $100 billion. It wasn’t unexpected in all quarters. Not surprisingly, the NY Times could only... Read more

June 24, 2005 — Recaptured by wayback machine. Why I will always admire Hitchens, even when I shouldn’t Filed under: Socialism doesn’t work Christopher Hitchens was dining out and looking for an ashtray – seeing none about he politely requested one. He was told he was eating in a “non-smoking facility.” Narrowing his eyes, Hitchens murmured, “I don’t dine in facilities…” Alright, I have no idea if he narrowed his eyes (I would hope he did) but I’m quite sure... Read more
