It’s been fun to watch the videos and read the accounts of President Bush’s trip to Georgia. I know that for those who do not like him, who – let’s face it – hate him, there is nothing charming in these pictures or videos, and his speech sounds like nothing particularly remarkable. People who have lived in freedom their whole lives and do not even realize how their own liberties are being undermined look at President Bush and see…well, I... Read more
I’m cracking up. A nice reader made a nice contibution to the honor system box and then dropped me a note letting me know about it. He said. “I don’t always agree with you and sometimes I say I’m never going to read you again, but then I miss the way you go at it, and I like the way you treat your readers. I figure I can give up ten to keep a classy broad outfitted in bandwidth.” Can... Read more
I hardly ever post someone else’s blogpost in its entirety, but this is too good not to. From Ignatius Insight. For those who don’t quite understand why the pope can’t just “change” things, read it all and get a load of that last graph. The Associated Press is running a story on Pope Benedict XVI’s homily at St. John Lateran, where he was “installed as Bishop of Rome.” The story reports that Benedict XVI “will stick to Pope John Paul... Read more
At first I thought this was from the Onion. A Rome court convicted a Vatican cardinal and a top Vatican Radio official Monday of polluting the environment with electromagnetic waves from a transmission tower, an official from Vatican Radio said. Cardinal Roberto Tucci, former head of Vatican Radio’s management committee, and the Rev. Pasquale Borgomeo, the station’s director general, were sentenced to 10 days in jail, said the Rev. Federico Lombardi, the station’s program director. Lombardi said the defense would... Read more
The New York Times gives this the kid-glove treatment, suggesting that all of this will be nothing more than a wee embarrassment for “Mrs. Clinton.” (They always calls her that instead of Senator when they wants to make her softer…) I know I don’t even need to say it, but I will. Can you imagine the hyperventilation we’d be seeing in the press if this stuff was about ANY GOP senator, congressman, etc? Josh Gerstein seems to think the story... Read more
Back when I was on blogspot, I would occasionally get these cute emails from folks saying, “how can I donate to keep you in bandwidth,” and I would get all flattered and thank them for their lovely and generous impulses, and remind them that Blogger was free, so they could just keep that buck or fiver or tenspot in their wallet! And…of course…you can still keep the buck or fiver or tenspot in your wallet. But I’m off blogger now,... Read more
So Geena Davis will play the First Female President of the United States. Watch for the show to present a completely non-threatening, moderate, centrist character with very little to say that actually means anything. As I said here back in March…this is just a means to an end. Start showing the American people a female president. Make her likeable. Tug the heartstrings. Use the emotions. Let them make an association in their minds with WARMTH, and COMPETENCE. Because America must... Read more
Greg at What Attitude Problem has posted his answers to the personal preference questions asked by the obsequious James Lipton on “Inside the Actor’s Studio.” I’m in the mood to be a little goofy tonight, so I’ll play along… 1. What is your favorite word? Twee 2. What is your least favorite word? Specific. It inspires lisps. I also don’t like the word lisps. 3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Praying the Divine Office. 4. What turns... Read more
I’m introducing a new category, called The Perpetual Adolescents, and in that catagory we will discuss the stubborn refusal of some – not all, of course – but some parts of the left to grow up. In the category we will include all of the aging schoolgirl columnists (bless Mark Steyn, forever, for that description). And we’ll also include some things like this: WARNING: THE FOLLOWING LINK CONTAINS THE “F” WORD. DO NOT READ IF IT WILL OFFEND. It’s one... Read more
